>>5996814She's an inspiration for Fiona but there's a lot of fundamental differences. The tl;dr is Don acts because she is brave and idealistic, and Fiona acts because she is desperate and goal-oriented.
Fiona is less immature and her contemplative side is far more out in the open, or at least this is far more visible to the players. Fiona tries looking on the bright side of things that are hard to justify after the fact, versus how Don has a set of values she wishes to aspire to and dies inside if she can't align with them. Rather than being a nerd for heroes so much that she tries to emulate them, Fiona didn't want to delude herself into thinking that being used as a weapon of the state is a good thing. Whereas Don wishes to maintain a status of fame, renown, and righteousness, Fiona is just goal oriented, and that goal is to get what she wants from her promotions and quit. "Fixing the system" hasn't even crossed Fiona's mind; she has seen that system eat people alive, and she is currently experiencing being the teeth that do it. She just wants to get in, get the bag, and get out.
But I can understand why you might think like that. Don was an inspiration, I liked the internal conflict, but I also used the art. Lots of people looked at the art and immediately made a lot of assumptions, which is the point of using any art at all in any quest, to quickly convey ideas without speaking. I meant to do that because art does a lot of legwork in establishing this understanding and just letting me tell the story I want to tell, but I worry that people didn't see past it and just played this tournament with their eyes alone. I hope people voted for characters, not just art.
Arty won in my heart. I think she earned it.
