Sophie reflexively covered her chest as if she could hide her soul from you, but she didn’t try to run.

“Relax. We’re not going to hurt you. I wanted you here so that we could find a way to break your contract. Or at least, find a loophole that we can exploit.”

A glimmer of hope entered her eyes then, and her posture became less guarded.

“You really think you can help? Did I really…did I really sign my soul away…?”

Elsa gave her a sad smile.

“I hope not, but that’s what we intend to find out. All we need you to do is trust us and wait. I called in a specialist.”

You exchanged confused glances with the others. Elsa hadn’t mentioned this.

“Specialist?”

She turned around and shrugged innocently.

“I’m not an expert in soul magic. Poking around in someone else’s soul without knowing what you’re doing could have catastrophic consequences. So I called in an expert. He should be here shortly, but we still need to set up for the ritual.”

And without receiving so much as a clue as to who she invited to peek into Sophie’s soul. The only one you knew of that had such an ability also had a tendency to mercilessly punish sinners via Penance Stare. And if that was the case, then you were all screwed beyond belief.

While you were setting up for the ritual, you received a call from none other than your clone brother Abel. You excused yourself for a moment and answered the phone when you were confident that you were beyond eavesdropping range.

“Hey, Abe. What’s up?”

“Just checking in on my favorite evil twin. How’re you enjoying your vacation?”

“Oh, I can’t complain. Lots of sun, slot machines as far as the eye can see. And I’m making new friends every day.”

“I bet you are. Hey, can I slide an idea past you real quick?”

“Shoot.”

“So, you know how dad’s condition has been steadily getting worse, and he stubbornly refuses any kind of help?”

The question caused a lump to form in your throat, but you somehow managed to push past it and form a response.

“Yeah?”

“Well, I’ve been hearing rumors about a new gang that’s taking root in Chinatown. They’re called The Demons, and their leader is a guy who calls himself Mr. Negative.”

“I know. I’ve heard. Where exactly are you going with this?”

“Well…I heard that he has the ability to heal people. Like, near fatal wounds and incurable diseases!”

Oh. You knew where this was going.

“Abe…”

“I’m just saying, what if he could cure dad? It’s worth a shot.”

After giving her ass another tight squeeze, you released each other and came up for air. The look in her eye was ravenous, and you half-expected her to dive in for more, but you were both too professional to go at it like animals right here on the tarmac.

“I thought I told you not to make me wait so long next time.” you said, staring down at her and stroking her cheek affectionately.

“Believe me, Huntsman. If I were capable of circumventing the politics involved with meeting the Great Families, I would do so in a heartbeat.” she explained, before giving you another lust-filled look. “Especially if it meant spending more ‘quality time’ with you.”

“That can still be arranged. It’s a decently long flight, and we’re gonna have a hotel room all to ourselves.” you noted.

Anastasia chuckled. “While you may have a point with the flight, I do think you’re forgetting an important factor in our plans.”

You tilted your head in confusion.

“We will not be sharing a hotel room. Doing so would draw suspicion to you when we reveal ourselves to The Family.”

Damn! You were really looking forward to getting a chance to roll around in the hay with this fiery wildcat. Oh, well. You’d just have to create your own opportunities later.

“Speaking of revealing ourselves, I feel like we’re somewhat defeating the purpose of going undercover.” you said, taking a step back and gesturing at yourself. “I thought the point of us losing the costumes was to avoid drawing attention. There’s no way they’ll be able to ignore a couple of sexy beasts like us when we hit the streets.”

Anastasia’s grin grew slightly. “There is such a thing as hiding in plain sight.” she reasoned. “Besides, I would not dare to tarnish the Kravinoff name by looking anything other than my best.”

Right. I guess that means you’ll be repping for the Parker clan this week.

Anastasia stepped aside and gestured for you to join your friends. “Come on. We’re wheels up in 30.”

“Alright, hold your horses, Hotch. I’m going, I’m going.” you said, holding your hands up in mock surrender and ascending the stairs leading up into the jet.

It didn’t take terribly long for you to stow your luggage away and find a seat. Much less so for Flint, since he had no need for a change or clothes or toiletries.

You still had some time before Ana gathered you all for a mid-flight debrief.

Oya folded her arms underneath her cloak and glanced at Louise just in time to see her giving her superior an imploring nod. Seeing this, she panned her penetrating gaze across each and every one of you, and you didn’t miss how it lingered on you the longest. The woman’s eyes were no longer glowing, but she still somehow cut a very imposing figure.

“These Kravinoffs…they are hunters, yes?” she asked. “How strong are your connections? Are you confident that you can arrange such a thing? Do you have so much influence that your ‘guests’ will cooperate with our Order?”

Kraven stepped forward and nodded slightly, his eyes never leaving hers. “They will listen. I will make it so.”

Oya closed her eyes, and after a long pause, nodded her assent. “Very well. I will take both of you back to a safehouse of ours so that we may commence planning. We look forward to your cooperation in this matter.”

You, Ana and Louise breathed a silent sigh of relief, while Sergei smiled broadly at the woman. “If what you say is true, this hunt shall be the greatest one to have ever been held. And it shall be known that the Kravinoffs were the tip of the spear!”

“Oh, yes. Feel free to take all the credit. It would suit our needs perfectly if you did.” Oya reassured him in an entirely unsarcastic tone.

“Would you like me to come with you as well, madame?” Louise asked.

Oya shook her head and tenderly patted her on the shoulder. “You will be needed here for a while longer, I am afraid. If the forces of darkness take root in this city once more, someone will have to snuff them out before their efforts can bear fruit.”

Louise nodded. “Je comprend. May the divine light guide you.”

“And to you as well.”

While the others were wrapped up in their own conversations and monologues, Ana turned to face you, gratitude, relief and excitement pouring out of her every expression and mannerism. “Thank you. Your actions tonight may have saved my family from making a terrible mistake. One that they might have had a great deal of trouble burying.”

“I’m sure you’ll find a way to make it up to me.” you said suggestively.

“Believe me, I will.” she replied, taking a step closer to you. “But…I will need to go with my father in order to arrange the Great Hunt. I might not be back for some time.”

The fierce huntress looked conflicted in this moment, and your heart flip-flopped in a way that you hadn’t felt since you were an overly emotional teen.

You briefly considered boasting about your previous conquests, but then thought better of it when you realized that she just might refocus her efforts on you, instead of these vampires. She didn’t seem to be above targeting sentient creatures.

“Please, lady. I’m a New Yorker. I’ve stomped rats bigger than your head.” you said, stepping forward and pointing a finger at her.

Ana just rolled her eyes and shook her head. “Those do not count. Stomping out the life of a creature lower than yourself can only be considered cruelty. I doubt that you would have much to offer in this partnership.” she decided.

“Wait a minute. I wasn’t done listing my many impressive achievements.” you declared.

“Oh?”

“I shot down a flock of giant, man-sized Vultures about two weeks ago, AND I hunted and gutted a giant Lizard/Spider creature in the sewers a few days back.” you proclaimed.

Ana’s eyes widened slightly, but she made a deliberate effort to keep her expression neutral. “So you say. But do you have any trophies to show for these conquests of yours?”

You scratched the back of your head and struggled to recall whether you’d grabbed something from Dr. Connors other than his ID badge.

“Well no, but-”

You were quickly cut off by a sharp whistle from Cindy as she dug into her backpack, and pulled out a long, sharp tooth. It looked exactly like the ones that filled Connors mouth when you fought him.

You were about to ask her when she had the time to extract the tooth, and why she still carried it around in the first place. But during your period of stunned silence, Cindy had already flicked the tooth to Ana, who caught it effortlessly. She then turned to look up at you, and gave you a knowing wink.

She examined the tooth with great interest, most likely comparing it to those of creatures she was already familiar with. “I have never seen anything like this before. Where is the creature now?”

“Being detained. And I don’t think they’re taking visitors.” you explained.

She sighed, and relaxed a bit, her expression returning to the textbook example of stoicism that she'd worn for most of this conversation. “A pity. I would very much like to see it in person.”

“Why don’t you feast your eyes on this instead?” you said, showing her the article on your phone that summarized your public battle with the Vultures. She snatched the phone from your hand and her eyes darted from side to side as she scrolled down to read it. When she was finished, her eyes trailed back up to meet yours. There was something different about the way that she looked at you now. She was reassessing you.
