>>5747012The weekend passes in a blink, and Monday inevitably arrives, bringing with it homework. It seems insane that you still have to do homework when whatever is currently happening is happening, but teacher, it seems, do not care about the dreams you never told them about. So you do your homework and maintain your grades as any other student.
But you still have free time. When you’d previously spend it mucking about with Taylor and Raven, now you sit in the library with tomes upon tomes about Merlin stack atop each other.
“This doesn’t make sense!” You groan after a particularly frustrating paragraph. “Merlin’s story is fucked beyond recognition.”
“Yeah, I’m getting this too,” Tylor agrees. “Merlin studied at Hogwarts, in Slytherin, but it looks like there are mentions of him even before that. He was there for King Arthur in the nine hundreds, but there are mentions of, according to this book, ‘someone like him’ in ancient hebrew scrolls, and there is also something about Atlantis, which no one seems to quite know what it was, but everyone considers to be Very Important. And then it references me to a book written in the fifteen hundreds written in… I don’t even know what language this is!”
“We could try summoning a demon and asking them,” Raven suggests.
“Demons are not a real thing.”
“Oh, and Atlantis is?”
“Apparently so.”
“Anyway, it seems there is an entire field of history research on this.” Taylor says. “One side says Merlin was alive at least two thousand years ago and only passed by Hogwarts to make sure the Founders weren’t doing anything stupid. The other side says that they are, and I quote, ‘a bunch of crackpots who spend too much time smoking goblin weed to be able to differentiate their underwear from their hats, much less fiction from fact.’”
“Oh good,” you say, voice dripping with sarcasm. “You know, you’d assume that whoever this dream-lady is, she would give me more info to go on, but no. No. Cryptic and ambiguous, that’s the way to go.”
“Well,” Raven says. “She said “final month’s first night”. We should have until December 1st to figure it out.”
You groan and bury your face in your hands.
