“Sorry, you’re waiting outside with the band. I’ll meet this person on my own.” You reject the offer. “Now let’s pay attention to the performance.”
“Hope you don’t regret it, Mr. Manager!” Punk-P’s smile doesn’t leave her face. You have no idea what this means, but fuck it, you have enough Courage to face the unknown.
After an hour, Together was properly recorded. You congratulate the cheerful girls for their efforts, maybe you’re musically impaired, but you think this is going to be a success. With the atmosphere of celebration soaking the place, you thought it’d be a good idea to plan a fun event, but Punk-P reminds you that you have an appointment with the boss, and for managers, it’s unskippable. So off you go…
You’re in the Boss’s office. It’s pretty much what you expect from a place like this, there are records on the wall, pictures of the owner with different musicians he has personally backed. It’s kinda mute for someone who has this many eccentric rules.
“Hello, Mr. Ando.” The man checks his computer screen to make sure he didn’t get your name wrong, then invites you to get comfortable with a simple hand gesture. He has a wild haircut that you have no idea how it works. “I’m glad you could join me this evening.”
“Hi there, sir. Nice to meet you.” You stay polite as you sit down…
“Likewise. Congratulations to your clients for getting this far, I’m impressed by the fact that my daughter allowed them to perform today. Every time she gets behind the desk, she doesn’t move a muscle for anyone, her attitude is rather difficult to manage. But seeing her scramble to find the registration papers really shows what an interesting prospect your project is.” The Man’s voice is soft to the point of tiredness. It’s not sleep-inducing like Nina’s, it forces you to pay attention.
“Thank you, she wasn’t easy to convince.” You admit it was a battle.
“We’re an interesting duo, she judges character, while I judge talent. With Ms. Amber by your side, I have no reason to doubt her bandmates' qualifications. But you, Mr. Ando, are another story. I’ve seen far too many managers squander Amber’s abilities, and I’d love to leave this meeting convinced that you aren’t among them.” He stares at you decisively.
“Do I really have to pass a test?” You have wasted enough time here already.
“That’s akin to my daughter’s style. I'd rather wait and see. I apologize for giving you the wrong impression, what I said was only a selfish wish I had.” The man chuckles. “Mr. Ando, enjoy yourself. These are your first steps into a world of wonder.”
Okay, it’s time for you to acknowledge this, the man has a mannequin on his back, like he’s giving it a piggyback ride.
