<span class="mu-r">“And that somehow makes it better?”</span> Matt asked, looking at you through red-tinted glasses with what you could only assume was an accusatory glare.
You let out a weary sigh and shook your head.
<span class="mu-r">“I knew this was coming, but you’re always quicker than I expect.”</span> you said, making an effort to sound less confrontational than you had a moment ago.
Matt simply waited for you to arrange your thoughts. As you feared, he was taking this conversation very seriously.
<span class="mu-r">“Look,”</span> you continued. <span class="mu-r">“There’s always going to be organized crime. And he’s the devil that I know. I can talk to him; see if he’ll disallow some of the more severe stuff within his territory. The kind of stuff that I wouldn’t want to be associated with, either.”</span>
Matt was initially taken aback by your declaration, but he didn’t seem convinced by your argument.
<span class="mu-r">“You seriously think you can convince him to give up a lucrative part of his business by asking nicely? He won’t stop, Benny. He never will. Silvermane is and always will be the power hungry maniac that challenged Kingpin for control of the city. And you taking offense to his methods won’t change that. He’ll just make sure to keep you in the dark about what he’s doing.”</span> Matt said, planting his walking stick firmly into the ground. There, it stuck. <span class="mu-r">“How much do you know about his business dealings? Do you know all of his plans, or only what he chooses to tell you?”</span>
