>>5946379>>5946380>>5946487The word "Burgerpunk" never crossed my mind, but the first thing I wanted when establishing the setting of Solarpunk Cleanup Agent Quest was "rabid contrarianism of globalism," which is quite similar to making the opposite of Burgerpunk. In the setting, the entire world collapsed only because a couple places did and that dragged down everyone else. Even the most far-flung reaches of the world got into trouble because someone somewhere had one bad idea. The people of Finland and Italy were not involved in their apocalyptic event and still suffered because one happened and they couldn't live without those that were involved the world away, and they came to hate the idea of national trade at the cost of independence and autonomy, which plays into the most critical factor of autonomy; food production and the environment. It became immediately obvious these were critical to be cared for if peoples wanted to avoid eating from the same hand that strangled them.
"Burgerpunk" is burgerpunk because of the ubiquity of systems and services. The burgers are frankly irrelevant. In real life I could drive 1000 miles and still find a Buc-ee's. If I could drive to the moon, I would want to see that beaver there too because I am not stopping at the McDonald's. This idea of "this shit is everywhere" that goes hand in worldwide trade because worldwide communication and cooperation is all about finding someone new to sell these things to. These things become inescapable. It *must* grow. So the opposite of a system that must grow wide is a system that must hold itself back. Quotas. Regulations. Rules and red tape. Instead of demanding you buy more, they demand you to ask for less. There's not enough space for everyone to have a McMansion and a car, so get out of your pod and walk if you live in a city. If you don't, you get no infrastructure to speak of because it's a waste of resources, but at least you have space enough for a nigh-medieval house and there's probably less surveillance tasked to make sure you're not biting off more than you can chew.
