Weeks went by quickly after that. Lady Emelina had to leave at times and returned, each time honoring her word when it came to the teaching of Lucian. The Knight enjoyed these times for it was a very different experience from the brutal hammer of Adok or the firm hand of Remon. It was a relaxing touch that he did not know he wanted from a teacher after the other two.
“How do you not have bruises?” Was one of the things Emelina said as she gazed upon the arms of Lucian during one of their studies.
Looking up from his grammar book Lucian gave a somewhat confused expression, “What do you mean?”
“I saw you and the Dwarf, Adok, were training in the yard this morning and evening. I swear his strikes sounded like lightning as they hit your armor. How are you not blue to the cheeks?” She poured out the concern and curiosity with a series of points.
Lucian had to nod, “It's been a while since I was bruised that badly, maybe about two months ago?”
“Still.” She continued to press the issue.
Lucian gave a solemn nod as he was pressed for the point, “The armor that Adok has made for me is twice as thick as when I fought against the Warlord and five more of what other Knights wear. What I am taught these days is how to avoid the blows against my joints, how to cushion blows by riding them out. Its… a Dwarf way of fighting if Adok is right.”
She gave a nod, satisfied with the explanation given. Yet she did not look back down into her book and instead leaned in towards Lucian, “Have you heard what Prince Gillot is doing?”
“Two months ago he tried to call me out of the keep and hasn’t come since. I’ve been to the shanty a couple of times and no one has struck me.” The Knight Errant told the lady with of some concern to her words.
“I have heard that he and a few Knights Errant have gathered together in the ruins of Verac, where you were from.” She said, “I heard he’s preparing to make a fortress there if you don’t get there by year’s end.”
