“Let’s check it out.” you decided.
“You want to dive right into the bottomless pit where we all just heard the bloodcurdling scream come from?”
Cat didn’t let it show on her face, but you could tell that she was more than a little concerned. Prowler didn’t seem to like the idea either.
“It’s a bad idea. We don’t know what’s down there.”
Elsa and Ana didn’t appear to be listening, as the two of them were removing and examining the weapons and equipment that they’d brought with them. In Elsa’s case, she’d stored her guns in the guitar case she always carried around.
“Well that’s the whole point of us going into the pit. To find out what’s been bumping around down there.”
The monster hunter was currently loading a pump shotgun and checking her ammo count. The antique piece had a cross dangling from the middle, but you didn’t know if that was for fashion or functionality.
“And if it’s too much for us to handle?”
She gave the Prowler a weak smile.
“Then we turn tail and haul ass out of there. Nothing wrong with running away.”
“Not if you are only retreating temporarily so as to lure them into a trap.” Anastasia protested.
“We don’t have the time or resources to swing it, luv. We either go in guns blazing or run out screaming with our tails between our legs. That’s how you survive in my line of work.”
“Is the screaming really necessary?”
Anastasia had a dubious look on her face. Elsa’s grin only widened.
“Oh, yeah. You’ve really got to sell it if you want the big bad demons to leave you alone.”
The other two looked a bit more reassured by Elsa’s insistence that she was perfectly fine with retreating if the situation seemed impossible to resolve by yourselves.
“Don’t worry, guys. We’ve still got Sandy on our side. You all just watched him tear an entire building apart single handedly!”
Prowler turned to glare at you.
“I steal shit for a living, Huntsman. I don’t fight and kill demons who want to eat my soul.”
Cat nodded her agreement.
“I hate to say it, but I’m with ‘tall, dark and gloomy’ over here. I’m not adverse to a little risk, but I think we might be a little out of our depth here.”
Elsa slung her guitar case over her shoulder, walked over to you and grabbed onto your waist. You nearly jumped out of your skin, until you remembered that she’d be relying on you to get her there quickly.
“I guess we’ll just have to find out now, won’t we?”
Elsa gave you an expectant look, and you carefully slipped an arm around her waist as well. The woman just rolled her eyes and dragged your arm closer until it was firmly fixed over her toned midsection.
“For God’s sake, man. I’m not asking you to goose me in front of your girlfriend. Just try not to drop me.”
