>>6230180>UNUSUAL historical weapons from reading rpg rulebooks lolOf all the absolutely horrifying ramifications and consequences of the Iraq War, one thing I will never forgive, this is the most terrible unspeakable atrocity, but the Iraq War basically ruined the aesthetics of Dune, Denis Villeneuve made everything into Brutalist flat monotone dull Iraq war desert functionalism, Dune is about spice and spacefolding and transcendent mental hallucinogenic savage orientalist / messianic colonial escapades, Thou Shalt Not Disfigure The Soul etc theological pontifications, at no point do you really feel that cultural layer of depth whilst watching Dune and attempting to surreptitiously glimpse Lady Jessica's oedipal chest offerings.
And worst of all, even the swords / knives in Villeneuve Dune, they just look like slabs and wedges, or folding razor switchblades (HBO Dune Prophecy,
>>6226048the worst design), so unimaginative
So I was reading some rpg rulebook weapon compilation it lists hundreds of obscure historical weapons, the book was illustrated but I actually looked up some of these knives (I had never heard of them) and they are all real in museum collections.
So for your viewing pleasure and inspiration here is my selected pic related compilation I found from that rpg rulebook names list, top left is an African sword called a ngulu? I think it is a ceremonial Congolese execution scythe sword, I liked it because it literally resembles a warhammer WARPSWORD from the old Slaves To Darkness random tables where you generate hideously warped and rippling demonic possessed curved hooked envenomed chaos fleshblades lol
Then on the top right, I liked this dagger which I believe is called a telek, a Tuareg tribal weapon, superficially it looks like any plain crosshilted crusader type dagger but the pommel is actually another extended two-handed grip, not sure if it was decorative (cross type pommel) or actually used in a two-handed thrusting finishing attack / armour pierce attack etc like some poniard. I thought this pommel as additional grip hilt extender idea was very cool
Finally the bottom knife which is perhaps 17th? century is a very ornate undulating blade Indian knife called a chilanum ? I just adore the look of this weapon, it feels like something out of swords and sorcery orientalist myth, Conan, Elric of Melnibone white tiger intoxicated narcotic sorcerors cultists or even something from say 1001 Nights, Scheherazade. It just looks seductive and exquisite.
Anyway, the absence of this sort of cultural historical design detail is what I mean ranting against AI concepts etc.
>>6226048I had never seen or heard of any of these weapon designs before reading about them randomly. Any of these historical or cultural artifacts would look better for the sword and knife fights they perform in Dune, compared to the dull straight edge slab blades Denis Villeneuve went with in the end. I hope this provides some artistic inspiration, hehe
