“No.” Vera retorts immediately.
“No.” Scarlet shakes her head.
“I’m sorry…” Liu didn’t want to disappoint you.
“Danforth Villiers. Remember him?” You spell it out to no reaction. “He’s Dorothy Villiers’ husband... or was.”
“Oh! Lise’s mom!” Scarlet has her eureka moment.
“She might have some documents around, right?” You get upbeat.
“No, why would the Chief of Police have a map of this prison laying around in his house? It’s not the type of documentation someone archives at home to have at hand. Don’t be ridiculous.” Vera rains on your parade to show you how serious about the mission she is.
“I-I’m not so sure.” Liu meekly gets everyone’s attention. “Didn’t his wife conspire with the terrorists and that rich guy Ka-Shing? She probably was sharing sensitive information with them. Johnny, you mentioned a lot of their people got behind bars, right? They must’ve went to this prison.”
“Y-Yeah.” You didn’t think Liu would be on your same wavelength. Everyone is surprised by Liu backing you up here with facts and not just a simple hunch.
“That’s our Liu. You’re a great listener!” Vera is proud of her minion. “I was wrong about not wanting you around!”
Liu gets flustered but is happy to hear it.
“You told them everything?” Scarlet didn’t know that they knew a lot.
“Yeah, I had to get Vera up to speed with everything. It’s a long story, like trust me, we don’t have the time to get into it. But I can assure you, Vera is one of the most valuable and trustworthy allies we have.” You explain to Scarlet and mean it.
“That has to be one heck of a story.” Scarlet doesn’t see how you went from wanting to dismantle the Fan Club to trusting their leader with your life.
“One of? Not the most valuable?” Vera expected a better evaluation. “You’re acting so distant…” Vera pretends to be hurt as a joke. “I have no other option but to rekindle this relationship faster than before. We must spend as much time together as possible .”
“So, you’re calling Dorothy?” Scarlet asks what’s next.
“Fuck no, I’m calling Lise.” You know she’s the most reasonable of the two… and that’s saying something about the Duck woman. “It’ll take a moment. Uh, why don’t you all relax a little in the meantime?”
