Crab’s claw was in truth more a poleaxe or halberd than true axe though it’s head was long and slender almost like that of a bardiche of the riverlands though not nearly as brutal as you imagined and its length was near that of a warlance, yet even in the water it was light as anything and you doubted it would prove so difficult to you that ascending to the surface would be troubled.
You cast a glance to your grandsire, in the gloom his remains looked more at peace, as if your disturbance had ended some long vigil he had awaited the end of, the armour had come apart and the bones had collapsed giving him a more slumped pose, it was nonsense of course, in the end it was just a skeleton.
Still… it seemed ignoble to simply leave him here entirely and what proof of your adventure? Any knight or lord could lay claim to having found it and labelled you a common thief of their ancestral blade or spoil of war, it would be a weak claim, even a mad one to return with nothing of proof.
You could take the helm or the skull, maybe even both? You could put your grandsires remains to rest at least in some small way as was proper and the helm could at least lead credence to your tale, but at the same time it could mean your life, you had nearly died once, you were not keen for it a second time.
