>>5989760Don't listen to the other posters, there's a lot of unspoken rules. As someone who joined only about 4 years ago, it took me a while to get them but you can get a jumpstart. Here's a quick beginners guide.
Firstly, you need to join up with the Sup/tg/ website which is our archive. You can use a burner email to make an account and join up using the "user interface" button on the left side. This opens up the notice board and shows you the current Quest requests and "slots".
Basically each QM fills out a specific slot for month or year of each genre or idea they have. It's pretty loose but given our picky readers who only want the best, it's important to be punctual and find the right place to fill in. For example, I've been running the "Space Civ Quest" bracket for the past couple of years, (Space Monke Supreme Ruler- my most famous Quest) with Simple Space Empire filling in from readers requesting more on that genre since our readership improved. You can technically request to fill any "slot" for genre or type of Quest you want, but you'll want to keep track of your player history in other people's threads first (write down your thread IDs). If you don't have AT LEAST 3 months of consistent voting in Quests with the same topic as the one you're interested in, with no more then a one week gap, then don't bother applying, someone else will be given the position instead. Only people with really high levels of media literacy are allowed to run Quests here. Obviously if you can draw (and especially if you suck up to established QMs by making fanart) you might be able to jump the line first, but get used to lurking for the first 3-6 months up to a year until you develop your skills and absorb /qst/ culture.
It's not a perfect system but it is really helpful to keep people from making duplicate quests with similar concepts or genres that would steal each others readers- that's a big no no. Most people will hide threads if you step on an established author's toes without a good reason and try to be a "claim jumper" for their Quest slot, and I've heard of some getting autosaged by the moderators if they're really egerious, but I'm not a mod so don't quote me on that. It's one of the reasons why people keep memeing it up about a "GOOD fantasy quest" in the qtg, since nobody has been qualified or approved to run a fantasy quest in the periods between Sworn to Valor and Valen given how high quality they are. Mostly when unproven QMs try to run a new one thinking they'll be "GOOD" enough, they just get laughed out by the community and usually their tripcode gets added to a blacklist since they tried to muscle in on established QMs without even trying to adhere to the rules.
If you need more help, join our Discord. We're pretty accepting of new people as long as they stay in their lane and don't get a big head about themselves before they've proven they can handle a front page thread.
