Not technically dwarves, but I really enjoy it when ancient art depicts captives and subjugated peoples as being physically smaller or more diminuitive compared to the triumphant kingly overlord conqueror, who is usually trampling them. For some reason this is the motif I visualise when imagining swords and sorcery.
