>>5864414>TOO OLD TO DIE YOUNG bizarre LAPD leavetaking sceneI have only seen one of Lars Von Trier's films (it was Melancholia, yes, Kirsten Dunst gets naked tee hee hee as planet Earth explodes) so I have only heard of the Danish filmmaking concept of Dogme 95 he pioneered (minimal use of set or props, no special effects etc) and I wonder if Nicolas Winding Refn included this bizarre pastiche fascist crucifixion reenactment play as some sort of homage to that avant garde filmmaking movement. I can see a lot of the cited influences on Refn, eg Jodorowsky (the tarot stuff etc) and actually the perspective employed by his trademark distinctive slow rotation cinematography panning / tracking shot technique does indeed date to the 1932 Danish film Vampyr by Carl Theodor Dreyer (I have seen this, I know Dreyer also incidentally directed the most famous Jeanne d'Arc film, but I have not seen that one).
Anyway, I should emphasise the extreme compositional beauty of this tv series. I think also the comic book script writer guy managed to constrain Refn to coherent plot, whereas a lot of his other films like Only God Forgives or the Neon Demon exhibit overwhelming visual beauty but make no sense lol, ending in disjoint sequences of oneiric or symbolist imagery.
The trailer to this series doesn't actually showcase the cinematography very well or even provide a better sense of how ultra stylish it actually is; after watching this entire series, I really wish that GTA videogames were more like Nicolas Winding Refn films lol.
It probably isn't for everyone, as I mentioned it is art cinema, and VERY slow paced etc, but I enjoyed the cinematography

Here is another really cool music track, I believe this plays briefly in a party scene at a mansion owned by Dante across the street from Jesus (cartel member, whose mother is killed by the vigilante detective). This song reminds me a bit of the techno stuff that Jesper Kyd used to make for the old Hitman videogames
