The boy felt a snap as his eyes looked upon the large black knight. The warrior seemed to be wearing armor that was many times heavier than anything he had seen before and upon his back was the unorthodox scythe as his chosen weapon. It was like looking into a black void that was only darker than the night sky that stood above them.
He knew from his dreams the truth of the matter. This man was his Father’s killer. The one who slew him upon the fields of open combat in a war that he wished he never been witness to.
“Child.” The Black Knight spoke as the child realized he was looking straight into him, “Your Father had committed crimes against both Bretonnia and her people. He had not only lusted for the lands of others, but attempted in subterfuge to gain those lands when their defender was fighting against Bretonnia’s real foes.”
The crime seemed to simple when it was spoken like that. He had wondered in truth if what his father was doing was right but the man said that the time was right. That the Lady was shining her light upon him for the chance had made itself known. That by claiming these lands his Father could become vye for becoming a Count and even higher.
He was so dearly wrong.
The Black Knight reached over and brought the coffin inside, dragging it with what the young man realized was still a ginger touch.
He looked upon the coffin with sunken eyes. His cheeks already puff from the tears that were already rolling down his face.
“Honor the Chivalric Code and the Lady, or it will be Morr who claims you.” The Knight said as he seemed to be a giant about the kid, “For he was the one who claimed your Father in the end.”
Without movement of the warrior, the wooden door slammed shut. The child fell once again upon his knees and cried over the casket that was all that remained of his Father. A man whose ambition led him to getting killed. The son will learn, honoring the Lady and Morr in an attempt to placate the gods for the sins of his Fathers.
Forever stained by this moment he will renounce his family’s land without any heirs to it. In doing so, Willeme shall become something far greater than a simple Knight of the Realm.
