>>5697763The political atmosphere is extremely tense, especially so with Riah and Zeon's alliance growing stronger. Tax enforcement has been ramped up, Federation forces are more active in most colonies, and the feddies are generally making a huge nuisance of themselves and clashing with protestors and rioters on a fairly regular basis. This could be described as 'business as usual' for the last few years, but the riots and crackdowns are increasingly violent.
The Federation is currently undergoing a 'mild' purge of the officer corps, the lower and middle ranks are mostly being left alone and the real focus is on the most incompetent of the generals and admirals. Revel is heading the efforts and cutting out some of the corruption, but most observers don't expect it to change things. The purge controversial within most political circles but for different reasons; some are afraid the military is being gutted and left weak, others think it's far too mild and leaving it too corrupt, some see it as a veiled attempt to become even more corrupt by promoting in all of Revel's picks. It is a mess but moving forward regardless despite a lot of unsatisfied voices. There are no major economic or political reforms underway within the Federation, but there has been an increase in the military budget and aid to (see: bribery) the various fence sitting Sides.
Lahn (Side 1) and Hatte (Side 2) are the most supportive of Federation efforts and receive most of the aid and a lot less of their more forceful tactics, followed by Moore (Side 4) and Loum (Side 5). Side Seven is irrelevant in most people's eyes, but Felix of course has reason to know better. Jovians are still neutral (whatever Jedar is up to aside), Luna is filled with 'neutral' corporate profiteers eagerly pumping out gajillions of weapons for everyone, and absolutely no one cares about the backwater that is Mars.
