The roar came through like a Lance through a horde of goblins. The power behind such a voice came from none other than an angered Father who was beyond livid with his own offspring in a way that only kin could. A betrayal of the greatest order that threatened to separate even blood.
“Gillot, my son, I had forbidden you from such accusations! The Knight is right, my Son, I agreed to have you disinherited for such actions.”
He could see it then. Boiling hot water was poured upon the burning spirit of the young Knight as he realized just how damned his situation had become. Horror was written across his face as he looked upon his Father.
“Sir Lucian.” None could deny the words of the Duke as he placed the emphasis of his words upon the ‘sir’, “A Feud cannot be completed while we are on campaign. All Feuds are to be placed on hold for the greater whole of Bretonnia! Such happened for the Grail Companions when Gilles saved the warring Dukes from the Greenskin Hordes just like this one.”
The Duke stood between his son and Lucian now, obvious that he was the superior power amongst them, “Gillot, I will not disinherit you. It will be Lucian who administers your disinheritance with the blade if you continue to play as a fool. Survive the Feud, and in doing so you will become someone who can become Duke.”
As apt as a Duke should be, he both saved face but also administered the justice that was deserved. A Father like he could not disinherit his heir in such a manner but demonstrating just how dangerous his actions had been accenting him. It was the perfect lesson that would mean either the Knight learned his lesson, became the victor, or fell to the blade of a man who was once a Peasant.
Looking upon Gillot, whose face was covered in terror yet infested with anger, would likely try to kill Lucian before calling the feud off.
Right now Lucian did not feel like calling it off either, if he was honest. Maybe it was because he was now a Noble, but he could feel the painful sting of dishonor setting deeply inside his heart by the mere words of Gillot.
“Hear me, my fellow Nobleman!” The Duke declared as he roared loud enough for the Lady to hear, “In accordance with the Laws of Inheritance Lucian of Verac is now a Nobleman! In one day’s time, the Knight before we go towards the hordes of Greenskins, he shall take the Oath of a Knight’s Errant! As he is a Nobleman and my Son has accepted it, the two of them are now in an Honor Feud! May the Lady bless who is Virtuous in this bout of Honor and Estates.”
The crowd then roared their approval.
