You decided to be a neutral party and watch, but if you sense that Nariko is in danger, you’ll jump to her defense. But now, you’ll stand next to Yu Yan and her new pets.
“Pardon?” Nariko has no idea what he’s talking about.
“It’s me, Edamura.” Tonu points at himself.
“I don’t have the faintest recollection of who you are.” Nariko drops a bombshell.
“You’re not at fault, I was quite forgettable back in the day…” Tonu feels foolish to ever think there was a chance for her to remember him. “Woah, woah, woah, I can’t wrap my head around it.” He psyches himself up. “At long last, today is the day that I can thank you for saving my life, Edamura! Do you know how much this means to me?” The honor students gasp at this revelation.
“No.” Nariko shakes her head.
“I know deep down you know what I’m talking about, yeah.” Tonu remains optimistic.
“…If I don’t remember who you are, what makes you think I can recall that?” Nariko is a confused bovine.
“You don’t remember when I was about to end it all by jumping from the school’s roof? When you grabbed me by my arm, this arm, and said that the winds might start flowing towards a different direction, you will regret it if you continue doing what you’re doing?” Tonu can’t help but get a little emotional. “You explicitly told me not to end it because times could change. And they did change. It was so deep.” The honor students find this story beautiful. You and Yu Yan are just confused.
“Are you sure my advice wasn’t literal?” Nariko asks. “Perhaps, I thought a strong breeze would push you off the edge?”
“Don’t sell yourself short, Edamura.” Tonu dismisses this reading outright. “It wasn’t the only time you were there for me. I’ll never forget when I was crying at the library, and you, yes, you Edamura – told me that you don’t want to see another tear drop from my face while you were with me.” Tonu relays to her this beautiful story. “Or at P.E. class, when I was resting by the gymnasium’s entrance, barely catching my breath, and you said to me with those fierce eyes of yours, that no man worth their salt should block someone’s way, and to get myself together.” Tonu remembers with a smile. Your OG Hobo’s expression is of pure bafflement.
“I don’t believe I was trying to encourage you in either situation.” Nariko’s anger is all but gone and only confusion remains.
“Yes, what you feel now and what you felt back then is different. You don’t recall those moments, but I remember them vividly. We have different readings, but that’s life.” Tonu is full of gratitude for Nariko regardless of if it makes sense or not. “I know deep down we have a special bond.”
“You might have a point, but I still doubt I had the intentions you claim I had. And no, we have no bond of any sort.” Nariko shakes her head.
