“Well, how’d you like the coffee and pastries?” He says.
“Um, well… They’re quite good, actually.” You respond truthfully.
“Of course.” Martha says. “It’s not just any coffee, it’s cowboy style coffee, recipe from the best in the county. He’s my cousin once removed, y’know?”
Jonathan laughs. “Yeah. We gather up once a week just to share a cup and a bit to eat.”
The coffee cup warms up your hand, the black liquid is still steaming even after spending whole conversations in the cup. You were enjoying it sip by sip, it’s one of the best purely plant-based drinks on this planet. It’s been so long since you enjoyed a beverage like this. And this feeling of being cooped up in a house, with friendly company. It’s…
You shake your head. It’s weakening you. Martha seems worried for a moment, “Something bothering you, dear?”
“Oh no, nothing.” You reply almost instantly. “It’s just… I spent a long time coming here to Earth. Thank you for having me, really.” You say.
Superman seems to have enjoyed hearing that, but not as much as his parents, who are beaming with happiness as they know how entertained their guest is.
Evening comes and both you and Superman leave the Kent household for now. As you both fly off, he starts to talk with you.
“They took me, you know?” He says.
You look at him.
“As a child. They could’ve given me away. They could’ve ignored me. Hell, they could’ve been compensated for finding me by many organizations, and have given me over to them.”
You stay silent.
“But they didn’t. They took me. Raised me as their own. They were never afraid of me, they trusted me fully, even though I could’ve hurt them so much.”
You are still silent.
“All I do, I do to repay that trust and give it away in kind.” He says. He then stops in mid-air, it takes you a second to react and stop as well.
“I’ll see you tomorrow morning bright and early in the Watchtower. You can go wherever you want this evening.” He says.
You nod.
“But please.” He continues. “Please don’t break that trust.” He says with a firm voice and expression, then flies away.
You’re completely alone in the middle of the Midwest airspace, you find yourself completely free all of a sudden. Superman has just… trusted you.
Well, you’d better make something of this evening.
>That Debbie girl, you still have her address in your mind.
>You could spend the evening in the Watchtower commons, see who’s out there.
>Write-in.
