Your bedroom lays bare, you walk in with the file and shut the door behind you, you can't help but think about how crazy this would make you look to anyone else right now.
You sigh.
You live a crazy life, it's something you're coming to accept. You spread the files on the bed and get as comfortable as you can, gripping the portrait of Lauretta in your hands you lay your head down. You focus your mind with meditation, ignoring the buzzing from it you summon the calm landscapes shown to you by Detective Jones. All thoughts about the day and your mission fade away as you attune to your own body. You breathe in. You breathe out. You open your eyes and find yourself staring at a carpet that is not your own.
"Boss, She's awake." You hear a gruff voice call. The voice sparks something in you. The voice belongs to another vision, at the bottom of your fire escape. The man who burned his own goon just to make sure you couldn't get anything out of him.
Your vision bobs as your head is jerked upwards, the room and the lights spin as a face comes into focus, you find yourself looking into the pale face of Mandragora himself. He smiles menacingly.
"Good morning, sweetcheeks." He whispers.
"Wha.." Is all you get out before a powerful hand grips your neck.
"You've been talking to people you really shouldn't have, Laura."
"N..no" You manage to force out.
"No? Are you telling me that Quebec has been lying to me?"
"She lying!" You hear a voice call out. You don't recognize it, but she does. Her pimp.
"Oh?" Mandragora coos. "Are you lying, Lauretta?"
You remain silent, as more consciousness returns to you the more the fear sets in, he isn't lying. A cop pretending to be a John offered you a way out and you agreed to testify. A few days later with no word from him and now here you are. You feel your spirit break, it's like an all consuming fatigue sets over you as you let your head go limp in his hand.
"Yes, I am."
"I told you! I told you that bitch-"
You hear a hard thud and a wet crack as Quebec falls to the ground and his head bounced off your kitchen tiles.
"If you kept her in line this would never have happened. When you work for us you work efficiently or you get replaced." The Mysterious Right Hand says, you get only a glimpse of his face in the warm lamp light of the kitchen a large scar crosses across his nose down to his chin. You file it away for later.
"I appreciate honesty, Lauretta." Mandragora says. He extends his hand out and the Scarred man hands over a pistol. It look comical in Mandragora's massive hands.
"Lauretta. I have an offer for you, one time deal only. I'm gonna hand you this pistol in a moment and you're going to shoot yourself in the head."
You whimper in fear, your vision gets blurry with hot tears. Mandragora leans in and you withdraw out of habit but his powerful hand grasps the back of your head and he leans in.
