The second cruiser fares better. Slowly, it burns away from its stricken companion and rotates to face your strike force. Point defense weapons test the agility of your interceptors and are once again found wanting. The first squadron crashes the cruiser's shield, rotary autocannons firing quickly enough to overload the emitter system. The second and third squadrons swing close to the hull to pick apart the point defense systems with focused laser fire. The last squadron executes a lateral strafing maneuver that brings it - momentarily - in line with the ships sensor-laden bridge.

The blast shutters begin to close - but seconds too late. Pulse laser fire races across the bridge, slagging sensor nests and observation blisters. A generator sags inward before exploding in a blinding discharge.
Yet despite the damage, the cruiser still manages to respond. Gunships pour from the tripartite hanger. Missile batteries dump ship-killing payloads in sequence. A tracer beam from the cruiser's main weapon flickers into existence and fixates on the SOLSTICE.
