>>6449705>>6449757As much as I'd like to say that my quest not being your cup of tea is a good thing, since that means you're less likely to post in my threads, I will agree that sometimes I'm a little too protective of the "setpieces".
The Black Ocean one was a good example. I didn't let the players participate or "take sides" with that scene because it was meant to illustrate the vast difference between the wealthy and poor in that society, and how the poors are literally just dying to something that we take to granted in the modern world (access to fruit & vegetables). It was also meant to put up a mirror to the MC and his then stated goal of becoming the "richest person on the Black Ocean" since this is how unfair and cruel the rich actually are (and implied how they have to be) in that world. Finally, it was also meant to illustrate some magic in the cursed man unleashing disease on the spectators from the power of the Scurvy Death since up until that point nothing really "supernatural" had happened beyond the basic world stipulations, showing why someone would willingly ally themselves with the worst and least constructive Death if it meant they could get power over other people or get revenge. It was meant to accomplish all of this as well in a single post or two to keep up the pacing of the quest, but it may not contribute to the idea of the game world being a fully interactive "game" you can step in and do anything at any time.
Heart of Sorcery is meant to be a bit more of an actual "open world" adventure game in a Hyperborean-style world that's not as railroaded and more about exploring the main character's nonhuman psyche and experience as an outsider both physically and spiritually to the otherwise relatively grounded people in it. The original quest idea of doing nonhuman Conan eventually fell away when I realized I should just be doing reverse Conan; instead of a witty barbarian overcoming evil sorcerers, monsters, and deadly traps with his wits and strength, instead it should be about a witty Sorceress overcoming evil barbarians, monsters, and so on with her wits & sorcery instead. Unfortunately, I'm not really sure if that came across in the gameplay as of yet, but might need more time in the oven to get the questing adventuring feel.
