Before the green garbed hero arrived, before the princess’s power arise, before the blade of evils bane, before the kingdom of Hyrule waned, there were kings and queens, soldiers and spies, all battling to keep the kingdom alive. They fought the king of evil’s might, but were all cast down into deepest night. Without their bravery no land would there be, for the hero in green to have set free. So come all ye listeners and harken to me, while I spin thee a tale about the heroes in mail. The common solider whose blood was spilled, to buy time for the hero with the iron will.

Gannondorf leans back in his chair, and looks out through one of the nearby windows as servants clear the table before him. Captain Laro carefully observes the Gerudo King as he relaxes at the table. The man had always been relaxed and seemingly easy going for as long as Laro had known him, but today he seemed especially unconcerned and content.
"You seem rather pleased this morning. I take it you enjoyed your breakfast?" Laro asks cooly sipping his cup of wine.
"I did, though it's not why I'm so pleased. No, I received some good news this morning. The reinforcements I've been expecting should be arriving later today."
The words are like a cold slap in the face to Laro, but he manages to maintain his composure even though his stomach is now tying itself in knots.
"That's rather shocking news, if it's true." Laro says keeping his tone conversational.
"You don't believe me?" Gannondorf says with a chuckle. "Come with me. I have something to show you." He says rising from the table and heading out to the balcony. Laro follows after him cautiously.

Outside the city walls, Laro notices the flurry of activity going on in the siege camp as men rush back-and-forth like ants, taking down tents and loading wagons. A worrying sign, but Gannondorf soon directs his gaze far south of the camp to a billowing dust cloud. " See that cloud to the south, that would be my reinforcements."
" I don't know your lordship. It's hard to tell who that cloud of dust belongs to. After all, it could be reinforcements from our garrison to the south."
" Possibly possibly, but I don't think so. Here, take a look for yourself." Gannondorf says as he holds up his hand, palm facing south. He suddenly splays his fingers and out of the air, A circle of magic appears at his fingertips, Laro gasps and steps backward, away from the Gerudo King as he manipulates the circle with his fingers for a moment before finally stopping and turning his palm to face Laro." Come take a look. The king says beckoning Laro forward to his hand. Fighting his apprehension Laro takes tentative steps forward. At the center of the magic circle in Gannodorf’s hand, Laro could see clear images of what looked like Gerudo horse archers riding hard after some Hylian knights. As he watches one of the Gerudo’s looses an arrow and one of the knights falls from his horse and disappears under the thunder and hooves of the Gerudo. Laro tears himself away from the images projected in the Gerudo King's hand.
"A fine illusion" Laro says trying and failing to keep his voice from quavering. "But I'll believe them when I see your troops marching through the streets."
"Your skepticism is understandable. Worry not soon you can see for yourself that what I have shown you was no illusion." Gannondorf says turning from the balcony and heading back inside.
Laro remains on the balcony for a few more moments. Trying to understand all that he had just seen. As his thoughts finally gather themselves together. Laro realizes that his mission of passively spying may soon come to an end and that more direct action may be required.

Did all three princesses make it out of the castle?
There was a off hand mention of another prince at the end of the last thread, as in from the hyrule royal family?
Rather interesting how things will go if we have 2 princes and all 3 princesses still around.

"I would go with you Impa, but I am a soldier of Hyrule I can only go where my lord bids me to go."
Impa nods in understanding "If you are worried about being freed from your duties and oaths as a soldier fear not. We of the Sheikah have the right to select and train any we so choose. At my word you are freed from any previous commitments."
You ponder Impa's offer for a few moments more before you arrive at a decision. "I will follow you Impa."
"Good, gather your things and meet me at the prince's pavilion, there is much yet to do." Impa says turning and heading off at a quick pace toward where the nobility is camped.
You turn back to Joz "Well, ready to go?"
But instead of the nod and quip you were expecting, Joz shakes his head. "She asked you Matt, not me, this one is all you. I'm not really the bodyguard type, especially if it's going to take me out of the fight."
Joz's words shock you a little. You and him had always had each other's backs since you joined the military, to lose him now hurts.

This will be farewell for you and Joz.
“If that’s your choice, I won’t force you to come" you say with a sigh but then rally a little as you finish. "I'm sure I won't be gone too long with the way things are going, stay safe.”
You reach out your hand to shake Joz's in a final farewell. He takes your hand but then pulls you in close and wraps his arm around you in a hug. You hold each other in an embrace for a few seconds before breaking off.
"See ya, Matt, I promise I'll save a few for you." Joz says with a smile, but you notice tears welling up in the corners of his eyes as he turns and jogs away into the camp.
You wipe away your own tears, before heading off after Impa.
You arrive at the prince’s pavilion and Impa immediately puts you to work helping to load the baggage of the Royal Family. As you trundle chests, bags and boxes to the wagons, you overhear snippets of conversation between Impa and Prince Rohm. " Take the quickest way, The sooner you are in Kakariko, the safer you'll be, the Gerudo... Reports when you can, but the safety of my family is your top priority you should... Mother will remain with me. She stubbornly refuses to go, says she'll be more useful... Take care Impa, Hyrule's future is in your hands."
"It is as much in your hands as it is mine your grace." You hear Impa respond as you take the last sack to be loaded.
With the baggage loaded and horses drawn up, Impa mounts a horse of her own and tells you to take up your position in the caravan. As you do so you notice that much of the "escort" for the Royal Family is made up of the sick and walking wounded, like yourself. You'd say only a third of the men on this assignment are combat capable. As the wagons start to move, you hope that you don't run into any trouble on your way to your destination.
As the walls of Hyrule Castle fade into the distance behind you find yourself walking along side...

"Yes Instructor," you say the words escaping your mouth on reflex.
Impa raises an eyebrow at your response "You're an eager one, aren't you? Very well, today will be a history lesson, so listen close and keep your eye out for danger."
You settle into step with Impa and put your head on a swivel as she launches into her lecture. "First and foremost a Sheikah is a bodyguard. It was the purpose for which we were originally made. To protect the Royal Family from within the shadows. We have kept them safe for countless centuries from all manner of danger. Be it disease or famine, intrigues and assassinations of both foreign and domestic origin, rebellion and war, and even apocalyptic threats." She says the last one in an especially serious tone turning to look at you as she does so. "Our duty is to preserve the Royal Family, no matter the danger, and no matter the cost." She says holding your gaze as if expecting you to answer.
> "No matter the threat, nothing will stop me from performing my duties." After having suffered defeat and capture, you never give up or let failure stop yo. > "Even if that cost is a member of the Royal Family?" Impa holds your gaze looking for any sign of deceit before finally noding and accepting your answer "Good," she says her face losing some of its hardness. "Now bodyguarding isn't the only service we provide. Over the centuries our duties have expanded and we now act as spies, messengers, diplomats, saboteurs, and should the need arise assassins. In other words, we are the eyes, ears, and occasionally fists of the Royal Family, whatever they need we provide." Impa declares with pride as if it were the motto of the Sheikah. "Of course, not every Sheikah performs every task. While we train for every situation, each Sheikah usually specializes in a particular area, which you will learn more about when you finish your basic training." She says to your slight disappointment, "But to give you a slight taste of what a full trained Sheikah of the Shadow School can do, look behind you."
You spin around, but you find no one behind you. You turn back to Impa "Try raising your arm," she says amusment lacing her words.
You raise your arm and to your shock another arm rises just behind yours. You jump in surprise and the arm mimics our arm's spasm perfectly, staying just behind it. You spin around again trying to catch the other person but they are too quick and dissappear behind you. You spin the other way and come face-to-face with another Sheikah. You lurch back and almost fall over, but a body from behind, catches and mimics your shape before standing you back upright.

"Nice to finally meet you face to face Matthias," Sotrea says her voice a soft and whispy whisper. "It was getting... impolite, shadowing you for so long." She says choosing her words carefully.
"How long were you shadowing me for l?" You ask, half out of curiosity.
"Oh, since, Impa asked me to back at the camp. She asks me to shadow lots of people, like the time she had me-"
"That's enough Sotrea," Impa cuts her off, "You may return to your duties."
"Yes Mistress," Sotrea says with a deferential bow, before disappearing almost as soon as you take your eyes off her. Impa seems to keep a closer eye on her than you and tracks her for a little while longer before turning back to you.
"Besides Sotrea, there is one other Sheikah here named Naza, you may meet him later should your night watches overlap, but for now let us return to our lesson." As you approach the entrance to the tent, two soldiers bar your way.
"Hold there, what business do you have with the princesses."
"I was a member of the princesses escort during their escape from the castle. I was injured during the flight and separated from them. I had heard that they'd made it out safely, but I wished to see them with my own eyes. I want to make sure no harm befell them in my absence."
The two soldiers exchange an odd look, before one of them says "Well we just saw them, and they appeared to be in good health, so you can rest easy knowing you did your job. Now move along the princesses are not to be disturbed at this time."
You are about to turn away when a voice from inside the tent calls out "Who's out there Ciko,"
"Just a soldier wanting to pay his respects, milady" as the guard on the right speaks, the middle princess sticks her head out of the tent flap. Her eyes light up in recognition almost immediately and she ducks back inside, "Send him in Ciko I wish to speak with him." The princesses voice says from within the tent. The two guards share another look, before the one named Ciko shrugs and waves you forward.
The air inside the tent is humid and thick with the smell of soap and perfume. Rugs cover the ground and furniture and amenities fill a large portion of the space. To your right as you enter, sitting on a bed three times the size of your cot back at the barracks, is who you presume, is the youngest princess. She is quietly reading a book by candlelight while a maid brushes her long golden hair. As you enter, she looks up and her bright blue eyes fix upon you as if memorizing every detail of you.
Standing in the middle of the tent, bouncing somewhat nervously, is the middle princess. Wearing a thick night shirt, she looks as if she was about to go to bed before you arrived, her dirty blonde hair combed and falling loosely around her shoulders. The two of you stand in an extended silence before you finally speak.
"Um you wished to see me milady? You say awkwardly trying to remember all of the etiquette you can.
" I did? I mean, I did." The princess says as if trying to remember her own etiquette.
" Who are you talking to Cisen,” a third woman's voice says from behind a privacy screen at the rear of the tent.
" It's that soldier who saved me back at the castle."

You become introspective, voicing your doubts about some of your actions that day. For their part the princesses are an accommodating audience remaining silent until you finish. As you end your story, the tent falls silent, even the maid brushing the princess's hair had stopped to listen. Then the youngest princess speaks.
" Do you really believe that the goddesses answered your prayers that day?" The others in the room jump as if they are surprised to hear her speak.
" I do your grace." After your talk with Madame Ith that night, you'd truly come to believe that the goddesses had saved you.
" Can you tell me how you did it? How you got them to answer your prayers? I-I prayed to them too that day, I prayed so hard for them to save father and my brothers but they..." Tears well up in the youngest princess's eyes, and she can't finish sentence.

Not only will the loss of her family no longer burden her so heavily, but the princesses as a whole become more personable with you. You step forward and kneel down before the weeping princess. Compassion for this weeping girl overtaking any propriety. " I don't know why the goddesses spared me that day, but I do believe that they had a reason for it. That I have some bigger part to play in their grand plan."
" The goddess is planned for my father in brothers to die?" The princess retorts anger entering her voice.
" The goddess don't plan evil, your grace." You stop her train of thought before it starts. " Evil happens and they do their best to remedy it, just like you and me. You made out of the castle, your mother and sisters made out of the castle and even your older brother made it out." You help her wipe away some of her tears and then look her in the eyes. " Look, sometimes bad things happen, no matter what we try to do, they just happen, we can't control that. but what we can control is how we react to those bad things after they happen. We can do good despite the evil around us, we can be happy even when there's sadness in our heart, and we can move forward even when despair threatens to drag us down. Now can you take control? Can you take that first step out of the darkness?"
Fresh tears spill down the princess’s cheeks, but she stands up off of the bed and croaks out a "Yes," before stepping forward and wrapping her arms around your shoulders in a hug. The gesture catches you off guard and you kneel there stunned for a moment as the princess drips tears on your shoulder, but you regain your composure enough to wrap your arms around her and pat her back soothingly. Eventually the maid and princess Cisen, whose own eyes are moist with tears, disentangle the youngest princess from you and take over.
You rise back to your feet and head for the tent flap, but the eldest princess stops you. "Thank you, Matthias. Zelda was having a hard time coming to grips with all of this. We tried to help her, but nothing we did worked. Maybe she just needed a stranger to explain it to her."
"Thank you, your grace. I'm glad I could be of service. Although I can only hope what I said sticks with her. I fear our sorrows are far from over and she'll need all the courage she can get to persevere."
"You speak the truth Matthias. Things will get harder for us all from here on out, but like you said we must keep moving on." The eldest princess let's out a breath and straightens herself "And for me moving on means getting these two to bed, tomorrow is another day on road."
"Good night your grace," you say with a bow.
"Good night, Matthias and thank you again." The princess says as you make your way out of the tent.

ContinuousQM !!lVJpPHWlL0z ID:6tXelgOj Sun 08 Oct 2023 23:46:43 No. 5788300 Report >>5788295 The next few days of your journey are gray, chill, and drizzly. You speak with Impa some more about the Sheikah and while she answers your questions, she seems distracted. The rain closes a curtain around the caravan reducing visibility and making the road a muddy mess, slowing your pace. You start to grow uneasy at the thought of Gerudo outriders catching up to the slowing crawling train of wounded. The patter of rain starts to sound like the pounding of hooves to your paranoid ears. Thankfully though, no Gerudo horsemen come thundering out of the gloom. After a few days the rain stops and the road starts to harden again as the group begins its trek up into mountains and valleys that supposedly contain your destination. One foggy morning Impa calls a sudden halt and as you approach her to find out what's wrong, you see her speaking with Sotrea, the other Sheikah.
"Matthias, how is your arm?" Impa asks not turning to face you as you approach.
"Usable ma'am." After the camp doctor's treatment, your wound had healed surprisingly quickly. Although it was still stiff you could use it once again.
" Good, this thick fog is a problem. The valleys ahead are narrow and we won't be able to maneuver or escape should we run into trouble while we’re in them. So, I need you to go with Sotrea and scout the path ahead for trouble."
"Yes ma'am." You and Sotrea say in unison
"Now I don't expect there to be trouble, but if you spot any, don't be a hero. Just hurry back here and inform me of what you saw, okay?
"Understood ma'am." You respond, then you and Sotrea depart into the haze of fog.
The sounds of the caravan disappear almost as soon as you lose sight of Impa. The only thing you can hear now is your own footfalls and breathing. You can't hear Sotrea at all, even though she walks right next to you. If the fog were any thicker, you'd swear you were alone out here. You walk on in eerie quiet, trusting to the road to keep you on track. The fog does lessen a little as you make your way into a valley, although that is a weak word for them. They are closer to canyons, with their steep craggy walls of stone rising up all around you. As you scan ahead, you notice that the path branches off in two directions. When you come to the fork, Sotrea gestures down the right one and whispers “This way,” in your ear. You make your way past a few more forks, Sotrea directing you down the correct one each time until you come to a curve in the canyon. You and Sotrea spot it at almost the same time. A large deposit of earth and stone clogs the path ahead.
> Investigate the blockage and see if there is a way through. According to Sotrea this is the most direct route to your destination. > Go back and try one of the other paths, the detour might take a little time, but you don't like the way this feels > Wait a while for the fog to clear, better visibility might reveal a better way forward. >[Write in] Anonymous

" Okay, just be careful." Sotrea says to you before you start creeping toward the debris.
Despite your paranoia, nothing happens as you approach the mountain of rock blocking your path. Although, 'so far so good' does little to calm your nerves. You carefully begin picking your way around the blockage, still keeping your senses alert for any sign of trouble.

Using your hands, you shovel away some of the rock and it easily shifts out of the way. With some additional men and some shovels, you believe that this debris can be cleared enough to make passage for the wagons. With that assessment in mind, you return to Sotrea.
" I think we can clear it. We need some more men, but we can get through here."
"Good, although the cause of all that rock worries me." Sotrea confides.
" It could have just been a natural rockslide. It has rained the past couple of days, maybe that weakened the canyon wall enough to cause it took a collapse. You adopt a measured stance and begin poking and prodding at the blobs seeing how they react. For the most part they don’t, your spear pierces their gelatinous exterior with ease. Plunging in and out with little sign of discomfort from your foe. Your spears reach lets you keep out of the blobs range as they attempt to Slam into you, but Sotrea with her short daggers isn’t so lucky. She let’s out a grunt of pain as one of the blobs follows up one of her stabs by lunging up her arm as she tries to pull way. She manages to free her arm quickly from the blobs grasp, then lets out a flurry of stabs and quick slices. As she does so, the blobs recoil from assault sliding away her to get out of her range. It is then that you finally notice it. Sotrea’s strikes, while seemingly random at first had start to focus on a particular part of the blobs. What you had initially thought was just a tuff to grass suspended in the blobs body seemed to move and shift around inside the blob, desperately avoiding Sotrea’s strikes and as one of her strikes makes contact with a strand of the yellowish hair, the blob’s exterior shudders and undulates wildly in what you assume is pain or distress. With their weakness located, you turn back to your own blobs and press forward once again

As you do, the blobs close ranks and start to run together into an even bigger blob, but before they can pull together you strike out with your spear, piercing the yellowish bundle of hairs. The blobs exterior shudders then rapidly loses its viscosity flowing onto the ground like melting ice. Similarly on the other side, Sotrea stabs her dagger into the blob. Shredding the already wispy hairs further and causing it to collapse as well. She follows up her attack, striking for the center blob, her strike precisely aimed at its core. With a sudden shift however, the blob moves its core and Sotrea’s attack just barely misses. Not wanting to give the blob a chance to retaliate, you thrust your spear into the blob and make contact with its core. The blob shudders and dissipates like the others leaving you clear to advance. Ahead of you the massing blobs have already started to combine growing in size and blocking your path. You have to hurry if you want to get through before their bulk seals the pass entirely.

You and Sotrea don’t let their size deter you though and you both launch yourselves at them. Sotrea shifts and dances back and forth in front of the two blobs trying to slow them down and make them act cautiously, but the sheer bulk of the two monsters lets them ignore her for the most part and simply ooze toward her. Realizing her attacks are doing little Sotrea tries to back up, but she is too late and one of the blobs snatches her arm and tries to pull her in. She tugs hard at her arm and begins pulling herself free when the second blob comes and Engulfs the rest of her body with a sickening shlorp sound. You rush forward to aid Sotrea thrusting your spear deep into the creature just in front of Sotrea and try to pry her free using your spear. It works and you begin to shove Sotrea out, when suddenly the blob extends itself up your spear and covers your hands. You ignore the burning sensation and try to push Sotrea the rest of the way out when the second slime surges forward and Engulfs you into its body.
The sensation is cool at first, like someone just dumped a bucket of well water over your head, but soon your body begins to burn and itch all over as the blob pulls you deeper inside. You start to panic and desperately claw at the surrounding jelly but your efforts yield little results as the blob continues to pull you inward. You try to calm yourself and ease your panic, but your instincts are screaming at you. You have to get out and fast.

In an impressive feat of acrobatics, Sotrea scales the wall, taking her up and over the two blobs. Your awe at her abilities turns to horror however, as with deceiving swiftness one of the blobs extents its body upward into a column of water. Like a wave crashing into the shore, the blob Slams into Sotrea swatting her off of the wall. Just a few more steps between you and the exit now, you charge forward almost trampling a small blob at your feet as you do. In the corners of your vision, you see two blobs trying to slide together to block your escape. You dig down and push yourself even harder pounding the ground with your footfalls, racing the blobs to the exit.
You reach the exit first, but the creatures extend themselves out, grabbing at Sotrea and you. They pull at the back of your tabard and your boots, they cling to Sotrea's legs trying to tear her from your arms, but you thrash and buck, and tear yourself free from their grasp. Carrying Sotrea with you out of the canyon and to safety.
You don't know how long you run for, but eventually the pain in your ribs forces you to stop for a rest. You set Sotrea down and fall to your hands and knees beside her trying to catch your breath. You look Sotrea over again, but her condition hasn't improved since you escaped. Her breathing is still shallow and pained, and her face contorted in agony as she lies unconscious next to you. You've got to help her and quick. Your flight from the blobs had carried you out of the narrow passes and into some rolling green hills, the road you were following snaking off down in-between them. You might be able to find help if you follow the road, but who knows when you might reach the next settlement and Sotrea looks like she needs help and soon.

As you rise to your feet, your body vehemently protests but you march forward anyway, heading in the direction of the smoke.
You wind between the hills following the road as it takes you closer and closer to the source of the smoke. You can smell it now, the scent of burning wood along with a spicy, earthy scent that you can't place. You walk a little further and your ears pick up the sound of... singing? No not singing, humming. A deep and low voice is humming a rather jolly tune.
https://youtu.be/xBHKSBbSSJs?si=_duTUTUtsZ7ObMQS Almost curious now you, jog a few more steps, the strange song seemingly putting a zip in your gait. With a couple more energized strides, you round the hill and finally see the source of the smoke and music. Kneeling down beside a modest fire, bent over a cooking pot, is one of the friendly mountain folk, a Goron. His rocky back and shoulders are turned away from you, leaving him unaware of your arrival. Relief floods your body and you stagger forward, your aching muscles begging for a rest.
"Hey, you there." You wheeze between breaths "We need help, my friend she is injured."
"Erruh," the Goron makes a strange noise and turns away from his cooking pot to face you. He squints at you and blinks his large black eyes before recognition blooms on his placid face. "Hello there Hylian, good morning to you." He says in greeting.
You don't return his pleasantries, instead you set Sotrea down, and give your aching body a chance to rest. "Please help us my friend is badly hurt and she needs a healer." You pant.

You quickly snatch the bottle from his hand, unstopper it, and hold it to Sotrea's lips. "Sotrea I've got something to help you, drink this." You say to her and tip the contents of the bottle into her mouth. Whether by reflex, or because she'd heard you, Sotrea swallows the liquid. The effects of the drink are almost instantaneous. Her body relaxes and her breathing becomes deeper and less labored. Her face contorted by pain eases into a peaceful one, unconcerned by the pervious pain. You let out a sigh of relief, Sotrea had been saved.
With your companion now taken care of, your body finally relaxes and the exhaustion of the past hour catches up with you, almost making you pass out. You fight the wave of drowsiness though and manage maintain your consciousness, after all the day isn't over yet and you've still got a job to do.

Your mission still needs to be finished after all. Impa is no doubt growing nervous at your continued absence and you still need to warn her away from taking the direct route.
You turn to the Goron who had just saved Sotrea's life and thank him graciously for his help.
"Ah, don't mention it. our peoples are sworn brothers after all, it wouldn't do to leave a sister to die on the roadside, would it?" The Goron lets out a little chuckle.
" All the same, thank you." You respond giving him a little bow. " I fear though I have to take advantage of your kindness a little more. Would you look after this woman for a little while? I have a task that still needs to be done and I can't complete it if I have to carry this woman with me. I won't be long, I just have to warn some friends about some creatures we encountered in the passes."
The Goron nods in understanding "I'm not going anywhere in a hurry. Go warn your friends, I'll be here when you get back."
You thank the Goron once more for his kindness and then set off back the way you came.
The return trip is much easier, now that you don’t have to carry an unconscious person and can go at more modest pace. As you approach the passes again, you are faced with a choice. Your original route is an obvious no go, but as you examine the area, you see that there are several passes that meander through this area and any one of them could be an alternate route, or another death trap. The safer option would be to go around and avoid the using the passes entirely, but that could take hours. One final option dawns on you as examine the surrounding terrain. Some of the nearby hills buttress up against the passes on this side and lead up to a plateau of sorts. If you could scale up the nearby hills you could simply walk over the passes to get back to Impa, although there is no guarantee that the terrain won’t become impassable up there, or that you’ll be able to scale down to reach Impa once you get to the other side.
>Try your luck with the passes once more. They are likely your best route to reach Impa in a timely manner. >Go the long way around, it may take time, but it all but guarantees you’ll actually get there >Head up and over the passes it might be safer than using the passes and will still take you less time than going around. >[Write In] Anonymous

It is relatively easy to climb up to the top of the passes, but once you are up there, the terrain becomes difficult to traverse. You attempt to follow the pass you had used earlier, but as you follow it, it becomes tangled with the other trails and with the regular widening and narrowing of the passes, you are forced to take alternate routes in an attempt to follow your main path. Doing so proves impossible though, and you get lost once or twice when you try to reconnect to the main trail. Your situation is not made any easier, when after walking towards the edge of a pass, the ground beneath your feet crumbles. You manage to hang on and stay on top of the passes, but you end up with a nasty series of extra scrapes and bruises. As the day turns to late afternoon, you finally catch sight of the caravan camped out beyond the passes. It is the most welcoming sight you've seen all day. Your descent is no easier than the trip over and you acquire more bumps and bruises getting down to the ground. By the time you finally stagger away from the passes you are even more tired and beaten than when you came out the other side carrying Sotrea. Thankfully though, you don't have to walk too far as Impa, accompanied by a man dressed in the attire of the Sheikah, rush out to meet you halfway.
You expect Impa to be mad or at least very curt in asking for a report from you, but her tone is surprisingly calm, almost gentle as she asks you what happened. You tell her everything that happened after you left and inform her that the main trail shouldn't be used. Impa listens carefully to your report growing tense as you detail the battle that took place in the pass and the resulting near loss of Sotrea, but she relaxes when you inform her of your run in with the Goron and his help in saving Sotrea. You finish your report and let Impa process what you had told her. After a long pause to drink some water that the Sheikah man offers, you start to express to Impa your willingness to return to duty and retrieve Sotrea. Now, Impa's grows stern.
" You are a no shape to return to duty, Naza take Matthias back to camp and see to his wounds. I will lead a contingent of our soldiers to clear out the Chus in the pass. When I return, I want the caravan to be packed and ready to move. We need to be on the other side of these passes before nightfall."

Impa nods at his response and takes off to gather some troops. Naza without any input from you, picks you up and starts carrying you into camp the same way you carried Sotrea around after she'd been injured. You want to complain, or resist such treatment, but Naza is a head taller than you and a good deal more muscular. He carries you through the camp and to a small tent set up with the others. Once inside, he sets you down on a canvas chair and orders you to remove your armor and shirt. You do so, wincing at the pain some of the movements cause you. Naza Looks you over, taking note of the scratches and bruises you acquired coming back, but the main focus of his attentions are on the large purpling bruises given to you by the creatures from the pass. He pokes and prods at them, making you grit your teeth, so as not to flinch away from his ministrations. Eventually, he stops and begins to wrap a bandage around your bruised ribs. " You've got some cracked ribs," he says bluntly while bandaging your wounds. "You will need to rest and avoid strenuous activities if they are to heal quickly and properly." Finishing with your chest, he moves on to cleaning and bandaging the cuts and scrapes on your arms and legs "These are shallow, keep them clean and they will heal on their own." "It was my duty," he says matter-of-factly, "You should pack your things and then get some rest, Impa will return soon."
Taking his advice, you gather your things and head for your tent. Along the way though, you almost run over an old man shuffling along with the help of a walking stick. You open your mouth to apologize when you realize that you know that old man. "Archivist Jirron?"
At the sound of your voice, the old man stops and squints hard at you, before his eyes pop open wide in surprise. "Matthias?" he says sounding as shocked as you are.
"I thought you were dead" You both say at the same time
"After I saw you collapse, I thought you were done for." Jirron says
"I thought I was too, but the Gerudo had more mercy than I thought..." You tell Jirron the tale of your escape and how you manage to make it here.
"I must say boy it sounds like you've had quite the experience. Far harder that the one I had..." Jirron explains that after you went down, he managed to slip away and hide amongst the disordered bookshelves. Eventually, the Gerudo's search moved away. He escaped the castle using the Royal Family's secret tunnel and soon found himself in Prince Rohm's fledgling siege line. There he stayed until this "Caravan of Dead Weight" was formed and he was sent with it. "I'm honestly surprised you're here, Matthias. I would have thought that the prince would have taken every able-bodied man he could get?"
"A few able-bodied people were still needed to guard the princesses." You say modestly.
"And the Sheikah saw that you were more than an able-body, you were resourceful as well." Jirron says with a knowing smile. "I'm not blind and dumb, Matthias. I've seen you taking orders from that Sheikah woman and I know much about the hidden hand of the Royal Family. You couldn't have picked a more dutiful or more dangerous group to join my boy. I think it suits you though, you've certainly have the heart for it, I just hope that they can fill that head of yours with a little more common sense, so that you don't go risking your life for some doddering old man." He says with a chuckle, the first thing resembling a laugh you've heard out of him.

“Ha, you’re quite right. Tell you what. I managed to pull a few books from the Archive before I escaped, when you’ve got time come find me and I’ll give you a few lessons in reading and writing. They might not be the skills for a warrior, but if you’re interested in becoming one of the Sheika, they’ll serve you well.”
“I’ll take you up on that offer, when I have the time.”
“Good, now if you’ve a few moments maybe you could help an old man pack.” You assist the former Archivist in packing his things for the move, few though they are. You do notice that Jirron rescued more than just a few books from the archives. You pack twelve books of varying thickness onto one of the wagons before helping Jirron himself board. You wish the old man well then head off to pack your own things for the move.
Following Impa's instructions, the caravan is packed and ready to go by the time she and her troops return. They seem in good spirits, although maybe a little tired. At Impa's command, the caravan starts to trickle its way into the passes slowly meandering its way along the path you and Sotrea had scouted earlier. Once the caravan is moving Impa takes a second group of men ahead to clear the rubble you had described to her earlier. Clearing the debris doesn't take too long, and a path for the wagons is open, by the time the first one arrives. Your nerves are jangled somewhat as you pass through the ambush site, but the only sign of the blobs you see are a few puddles of liquid that to your relief, don't rise up to attack you as you pass by. It takes most of the remaining daylight, but the caravan is finally through the passes. Impa orders the caravan to set up camp a few hills over from the passes, but such minutiae doesn't concern you. You are far more eager to recover Sotrea from the Goron. Impa had been rather strict so far in involving you on any task, but she relents and lets you accompany her in retrieving Sotrea. The Goron is exactly where you had left him earlier. Still tending to his cooking pot, he waves at you as you approach.

" Thank you for your aid, master Goron. I'm sure that potion was not cheap."
The Goron shrugs "It was worth it to save a sister of a brother people."
"All the same, I’d like to repay your kindness." Impa says reaching into her rupee pouch and pulling out a clear and polished purple rupee. The Goron holds up his hand to refuse it, but Impa presses the gem into his hand and closes the Goron's beefy fingers around the money. " Take it and consider it payment for delivering a message for me. Return to your Lord and tell him that the King of Hyrule has been slain by the King of the Gerudo."
The Goron is shocked at Impa's statement, but he nods regardless saying, " Your people have my condolences. I will deliver your message to our chief as soon as possible, he will want to hear it."
"Thank you, may the ground beneath your feet be sturdy." Impa starts
"And may rocks in front of you shatter with ease." The Goron finishes a broad smile creeping across his face.

Remembering Impa's command to Sotrea, you first check Naza's tent to see if she's still there. She is, and in the middle of an examination. She is sitting on the same canvas chair you were when Naza checked you over. Her shirt is off, but she still wears a chest wrap. From where you're standing in the doorway, you get a good look at her. Sotrea's hair, like Impa's is white although Sotrea wears hers a little longer. You'd known that Sotrea was a little on the thinner side since you first saw her, but with her shirt off, you can see her ribs clearly defined underneath her pale, paper white skin. On her upper right arm and down the right side of her body you see red tattoos, and while you can't make out any meaning in the ink, they seem very intricate and purposeful to you. Along with the tattoos, you notice that she bears a few scars. Most are minor, but a nasty and jagged looking one runs across her abdomen, like she had been disemboweled and had her guts sewn back into her. Neither of the two Sheikah react to your entry, seeming too busy with their argument to notice you.
"Your heart rate and breathing are normal and physically there doesn't appear to be any damage. Are you feeling any phantom pain, like something should be hurting, but isn't?" Naza says as he taps his fingers along Sotrea bare back.
"I already told you, I'm fine Naza. I'm perfectly healthy. Now are you done groping me? Just being in your tent makes me anxious."
"That is likely a side effect of the potion. As are strange growths or tumors if the concoction was made incorrectly, but I don't see any of those. So, I guess you can go."

To your amazement, the tattoos start to glow faintly and the strange eye tattoo starts to move, closing itself. At the same time, you find it harder and harder to stay focused on Sotrea. She doesn't disappear from sight it's more like your brain is ignoring that there's a person sitting in front of you even though your eyes see her clearly enough. Sotrea lets out the breath she was holding and the glow from her tattoos fade as you can finally focus back in on her. "One of the guys from the Open Eye gave me this tattoo, I don't know exactly how it works only that is does and is very helpful."
You continue to stare at Sotrea's tattoo for a little longer before your curiosity is sated.
" That's amazing," you finally say.
" Oh, yes, the Open Eye, guys can do some pretty cool stuff. It's shame they're all so... odd."
" They are secretive." Naza clarifies "and they have to be. Some of the things they know are extremely dangerous and could do great harm in the wrong hands."
"Sure, but so is some of the stuff we know." Sotrea adds
Suddenly the tent flap is thrown back and Impa enters "Naza, how is she?"
"Healthy and ready for duty," he answers straightening up in Impa's presence.
"Good, Sotrea follow me I have tasks for you." Impa says and without another word she walks out of the tent.
Sotrea sighs and rises to her feet, "Damn it, it's going to be a long night." She says adjusting her gear as she leaves the tent. Leaving just you and Naza.
"You should get some sleep Matthias you've had long day, and if Impa catches you wander about she'll probably put you to work."
You thank Naza for the advice and for his healing earlier, before heading off to your tent to finally get some sleep.

I will be around tomorrow yet, so if you have any questions about my version of Hyrule in general I will answer them, if we haven't fallen off the board by then. Thanks for playing!
