Last time on Cutémon, you escaped Rust City just ahead of the Traders, a shadowy group of rare mon dealers who captured your friends in hopes of finding you! A little lost on the prairie, you and Ramster met a young human girl named Katie Redfern whose hirsute herd of Hairgrazers had been hijacked out from under her and her father Cliff. With their gentle giant Terrabull too big for the task, you and Katie sneaked out of the house, and after learning the Hairgrazers were out-rustled by a horrible Araknagrab you risked certain doom to save the last of the Hairgrazers and brought down the roof with your exit!

Taking a Terrabull taxi to Copper Citadel, you and Ramster parted ways with Katie and Cliff, and wandered your way toward the science tower of Professor Ginger, but not before encountering the tan-tufted Tamounda and saved him from the Copper Citadel Mon Control! Your trio trekked to Professor Ginger's tower, where the way was barred by the superintelligent Springblok! With a slip of Tamounda's tongue you met Professor Ginger, who was able to unlock the inner workings of Professor Plumtree's strange invention, the cutécaptor. Springblok's suspicion of Tamounda proved correct, and Tamounda led you to discover a hidden lair of feral mons underneath the Copper Citadel Arena led by the reclusive psychic-type mon Smellapath.

Caught by Plumtree in the corridor of the arena, Springblok and Ramster sparred with Professor Plumtree's mechanical mon Onlion long enough for you to escape by enrolling Ramster and Tamounda in that evening's mon fighting tournament! Ramster's reserve was just barely enough to burst Waterbear's bubble, and with Tamounda too timid to tussle, you quickly lost to Starr, a young human woman with a Clambreak, a Chompex, and a debt to the Traders that threatened all three of her mons! Your charitable donation to the Traders' lackey Donaldo and his ominous Ourobros kept them from collecting any of Starr's mons, and Starr was able to sweep her second round!

The victory was short-lived, as you and Starr faced the last round against Ward, a psychic opponent with three undead-type mons in tow! When Ward threatened to expose your true nature in front of the entire crowd, you took to the streets and the undead-type mons took down themselves! In the final battle against Ward, a last-ditch effort revealed Ward was really a human-type mon called a Psykid!

You turn your head and look at Ramster on your shoulder.

What? Ramster is wearing earplugs so he can't hear Starr complaining?

You reach into your jacket pocket to take out your Travel Map. It feels like you still have your Car Key for your car parked in the Rust City Arena, the Cutécaptor, and your Video Game!

What? You still have a long way to walk before you get to the X on your map?

"...And don't get me started on that Ward kid. I'll be glad if I don't have to ever see him again. Talk about creepy, you know? And those undead-type mons! But hey, at least we won, right guys?"

Starr's mons all look at her and nod!

"Waddabeah!"

"Chompex!"

[SFX: double shell clap]

"Ram-ram!"

What? Ramster is tugging on your shirt? It seems like he just noticed something behind you!

You look behind you and see a pickup truck with two humans in it coming up the road toward you! There's a huge Hamblok in the back of the pickup truck!

Tamounda hides behind your legs and peeks out at the pickup truck and says "Tamounda!"

What? You feel like you should run into the trees and hide from the humans in the pickup truck?

"It's about time someone came along! Hey! Hey! Hold it!" It looks like Starr is already waving at the pickup truck!

You reach up and adjust the baseball cap on your head. You can't fool any humans into thinking you're a human girl unless you're wearing a hat!

The pickup truck slows down and stops next to you and Starr. It looks like an old human man is driving! The other window rolls down and an old human woman looks at Starr and says "Do you young folks want a ride? We're taking this Hamblok to the Professor in Ferropolis. Poor thing's tail isn't coiling all the way!"

The Hamblok looks at the old human woman and says "Hamblok..." What? You think the Hamblok sounds pretty sad? It's probably because there's something wrong with her tail!

What? You just realized that the old human woman said they were going to a professor?

"Why don't you young folks climb on in the back?" The old human woman waves at Hamblok and says "Move over, Hamblok!"

Hamblok looks down at you and Starr and lifts up a fold of fat!

Starr looks at Hamblok and then looks at you. "Hey, it beats walking."

It seems like Starr really doesn't want to walk any further!

You all climb into the back of the pickup truck next to Hamblok! You can barely fit! You're completely surrounded by Hamblok's fat!

At least it's harder to hear Starr complaining now!

Hamblok looks down at the human boy and says "Hamblok..." She still sounds pretty sad!

The old human man rolls down his window and says "Thanks for meeting us on short notice, Professor Bean!"

What? The human boy is actually a professor? You can't believe it!

Professor Bean pulls out a small object and looks at it for a moment. "Hmm... According to my portable mon scanner, there are seven mons present, not six."

What? You're not sure how many mons are here? Well, there's you, and Ramster, Tamounda, Waterbear, Clambreak, Chompex, and Hamblok, which means there are seven mons here.

What? You just realized Professor Bean is talking about you? You duck back down behind Hamblok's fat!

Professor Bean looks at the mon scanner again and says "Either my equipment is broken, or one of the mons is... ulp!" What? Professor Bean's cheeks are turning red?

The old human woman looks at Hamblok and says "Hamblok!"

Hamblok looks at the old human woman and shakes her head! "Hamblok!"

When Hamblok shakes her head, you and Starr both get pushed out of the pickup truck and land on the ground!

You both stand up and the old human man says "It's her tail, Professor. It's... Professor?"

What? Professor Bean isn't even looking at Hamblok? It seems like he can't stop looking at Starr!

"Huh?" Starr looks down at Professor Bean.

What? You just noticed Professor Bean has a strange expression on his face? "Um... I'm, um... Bean. Professor. I mean, Professor Bean!"

Starr crosses her arms. "Yeah, we heard."

"Um... I'm... I'm the youngest world in the professor! I mean..."

"You sure aren't the smoothest." Starr looks at the old humans pushing Hamblok out of the pickup truck.

You look at Professor Bean. What? It seems like his cheeks are even more red than before!

Starr looks down at him and says "Hey, Professor Sprout, where's the nearest arena? We need to make some quick coins to pay for our room."

"Um... I... I have some washing that needs lab equipment! I mean..."

"Forget it." Starr looks at you and says "The first rule of mon training is: Always check out the competition. Let's go to the Ferropolis Arena and see if there's any action there."

"Hamblok!" What? The humans are trying to push Hamblok toward Professor Bean's laboratory but she doesn't want to go?

Hamblok tries to hide behind you!

Look out!


Hamblok is challenging you!

Hamblok attacks before you were ready!

Hamblok attacks with Surround!

You can't move, no matter how hard you try!


"Hmm..." Professor Bean is looking at you! "This Hamblok seems to be more comfortable around you. Would you mind accompanying it into my laboratory?"

"Hey, kid! Let's go!" Starr is looking at you!

Hamblok looks down at you and says "Hamblok..."

What? You just noticed that Professor Bean wasn't helping because he's still looking at Starr? When Starr notices she turns around and starts walking away!

The old human man looks at Professor Bean. "Thanks again for seeing Hamblok, Professor. Professor?"

"Hmm? Oh!" Professor Bean looks up at the old man and says "People from the surrounding communities often bring their mons to me for medical treatment. In fact, I was expecting a Racclone from Tinville. Even though they're coming from the other side of the ruins, they should have been here by now."

You finally climb out from under Hamblok!

Professor Bean takes his portable mon scanner out of his labcoat pocket and starts waving it around Hamblok. Hamblok looks at Professor Bean and says "Hamblok..."

What? You just noticed Professor Bean is waving the portable mon scanner toward you?

You catch up to Starr as quickly as you can!

When you get closer Starr glances at you. "What did that little brat say to you?" Before you can say anything she waves her hand and says "Forget it, I don't even want to know. Come on, let's find the arena."

After a while you find a big building that looks like the Rust City Arena and the Copper Citadel Arena!

What? You just realized that you've seen three mon fighting arenas so far? You're starting to get pretty familiar with them!

"About time! Alright kid, let's take a look at our competition. Some of these other mon trainers might be planning on competing in the canyon."

What? Is Starr talking about the X on your travel map?

When you and Starr walk inside the arena you see a crowd of humans shouting! They seem pretty angry! One of them has a mon that looks like a giant bulb with a face! It's a Turnipper!

"I know you've always been jealous of how well-trained my Rabbadrab is! Admit it, you stole him!"

"That thing? Don't make me laugh! Besides, my Frigeon is gone too! I know he'd never leave me. Someone must have taken him!"

"Who cares about some flying-type mon, my Leafhorn disappeared last night!"

"Tamounda!"

What? All the humans stopped arguing when they heard Tamounda? They're all looking at you now! You can't help your cheeks turning red!

The human with the Turnipper points at you and Starr and asks "Who are you?"

"I've never seen them before. Or their mons!"

"Maybe they stole 'em!"

"Turrr-nipper!"

Another human comes out of the arena office and says "I don't want any trouble in here. You two, get out!"

Starr glances at you. "Hey, we can take a hint. Right, kid?"

When you get back outside Starr says "Looks like we might not be able to win any coins in the Ferropolis Arena after all. I wonder what happened to all those mons."

You look up at Starr.

"The Traders?"

Starr shrugs. "Maybe. But the Traders don't deal in common mons. Those mon trainers said the missing mons are a Rabbadrab, a Frigeon, and a Leafhorn."

What? You just remembered Professor Bean said something about another mon?

"And a Racclone!"

"Huh? Who told you that?"

"Professor Bean!"

Starr is looking off into the distance! It seems like she's thinking about something! "A Racclone... Now that's a rare mon. I bet whoever owns it would give a nice reward for finding it. Did that brat say where the Racclone was supposed to be?"

What? Starr is asking you where Professor Bean said the Racclone was from? You had better tell her!

"Tinville!"

What? You're not sure exactly where Tinville is? You take out your travel map and look at it.

Starr points at a spot on your travel map and says "Tinville. Talk about the middle of nowhere! Still, it might be worth sniffing around. Right, Chompex?"

Chompex nods and says "Chompex!"

What? Starr is thinking about going to Tinville instead of going to the X on your travel map?

Starr looks at you and says "Hey, relax, kid. They only hold fights in the canyon during the full moon. We've got at least three days until then."

What? Your stomach is rumbling? It's probably because you haven't eaten anything today!

Starr takes a candy bar out of her pocket and starts eating it! What? Starr has a candy bar? That's not fair!

Starr sees you looking at her and breaks off a piece of the candy bar. "Hey, eat up. This might be our last meal unless we can figure out a way to get some coins. And before you say anything, I'm not washing any of that brat's test tubes!"

"Ram-ram!" Ramster is pointing at the Ferropolis Arena!

What? You just realized that the Ferropolis Arena probably has a mon entrance just like the Rust City Arena and the Copper Citadel Arena?

We're getting off-track. our main objectives are t save our friends and avoid capture, right? Then let's see if we can get a mon-tracker, especially one which (if we can work out a deal) can maybe be calibrated to seek out a specific mon which we know belongs to the trappers... Like Rattletrap, say. or even Joe's weird shark monster or Mashi's flying-type. Could also be useful for detecting and avoiding Onlion.

What? You just noticed that you're walking past Professor Bean's laboratory? Maybe you should say goodbye to Hamblok before you leave!

"Hey, you aren't going back to Professor Brat, are you?" Starr can't believe it! "Alright, make it quick, will ya?"

You walk through the door of Professor Bean's lab! It looks a lot like Professor Plumtree's lab. You're not sure where to go!

"Hamblok!"

What? You just heard Hamblok? It sounded like it came from the far end of the hall! You walk down the hall and peek your head in. It looks like Professor Bean fixed Hamblok's tail! She doesn't seem upset anymore! When Hamblok sees you she says "Hamblok!"

"Oh, it's you!" Professor Bean is looking at you! "Um... did your friend come with you?"

What? Is Professor Bean asking about Starr? You're not sure what to say!

"She's probably a top mon trainer. That's probably why you're both here in Ferropolis, isn't it? To look for rare mons, I mean. Is your friend looking for any mon in particular?"

You nod your head!

"Racclone!"

"Racclone?" Professor Bean looks at you. "You mean the Racclone from Tinville? Here, I'd better give you this." He reaches into his pocket and takes out his portable mon scanner!

What? Professor Bean is giving you his portable mon scanner? He points at it and says "If there are any mons in range, it will glow. The brighter the glow, the closer the mon. To activate the device, press this button."

Professor Bean pushes the button! The portable mon scanner starts to glow!

What? Professor Bean is pointing the portable mon scanner at you?

Professor Bean looks up at you. "Um... There are obviously a few calibrations still required but that's what field tests are for!"

Professor Bean is handing you the portable mon scanner! You had better take it!

You take it and put it in your pocket right away!

"Is there anything else I can do for you and your friend?"

What? Your stomach is rumbling again?

"Oh! If she's going into the field, your friend will need some provisions. I happen to have a pack ready to go." Professor Bean points at a backpack lying on the floor.

"Tamounda!" Tamounda sticks his head in and pulls out a cracker! What? Professor Bean is giving you all this food? It seems like he really wants Starr to like him!

When you get outside Starr looks in the backpack. "No way!" She takes out the crackers and feeds some of them to her mons.

What? Starr put the rest of the crackers back without eating any? Starr looks at you and says "First rule of owning mons: Make sure they get fed, no matter what."

You and Tamounda start walking out of Ferropolis with Starr and her mons! You turn on the portable mon scanner and wave it around.

"Ram-ram!" Ramster is pointing at the mountain up ahead!

What? You just realized it's not a mountain?

After all the other mons go to sleep Starr looks at you with a strange expression on her face!

"Have you ever heard about these ruins, kid?"

You're shaking your head!

"They say that a long time ago, humans used mons to fight a huge war against aliens from another world and that's what destroyed all these gigantic buildings."

You don't know any kinds of mons that could destroy something like that!

"But they also say..."

What? Starr is leaning in toward the campfire with a strange expression on her face? It's making her look scary!

"They say some of the mons that were used in that war are still alive, and if you get lost in the ruins, they'll sneak up on you and..."

Suddenly something rustles in the bushes!

You and Starr can't help screaming!

The strange Frigeon flies in a circle above the campfire!

"Huh?" Starr just noticed the Frigeon's eyes are glowing! "Hey, look! Grab it!"

Chompex wakes up and says "Chompex!" and jumps in the air and tries to bite the Frigeon but it flies out of his mouth before he can bite it!

The Frigeon flies around the campfire in a circle again and then starts flying away toward the ruins!

Starr jumps up and tries to grab it but it's too high in the air!

What? You're taking out the portable mon scanner? Are you really going to follow the strange Frigeon into the forest even though it's dark?

You run around the campfire and follow the Frigeon into the forest!

"Hey, wait!" Starr can't believe it! "Hey, kid, come back! It's too dark to..." Starr looks at the sleeping mons and says "Wake up, you guys! We can't let her get lost!"

You keep chasing Frigeon with the portable mon scanner! What? You just noticed that you can't hear Starr shouting at you anymore?

You keep following Frigeon!

"Tamounda!"

What? Tamounda is here? You look behind you and see Tamounda caught between two tree trunks! He's kicking his legs but he can't get loose! When he sees you looking at him, Tamounda stops kicking his legs and looks up at you. "Tamounda!"

You grab Tamounda and pull him loose! When you pull him out he says "Tamounda!"

What? You're not sure where the Frigeon went? You look at the portable mon scanner again. It seems like the Frigeon is ahead of you down the hill!

What? You don't know if you want to keep walking through the dark forest because it's scary?

You look at Tamounda!

Tamounda looks up at you and says "Tamounda!"

You and Tamounda keep walking through the dark forest even though it's scary! The glow from the portable mon scanner is getting brighter! The Frigeon must be right in front of you!

Suddenly, you hear a branch snap!

Tamounda says "Tamounda!"

You can hear hooves running closer! What? There's something coming out of the darkness?

A Leafhorn is charging up the hill toward you! "Leeee-forn. Leeee-forn. Leeee-forn."

Tamounda says "Tamounda!" and hides behind you!

The Leafhorn stops in front of you! "Leeee-forn. Leeee-forn. Leeee-forn."

What? You just noticed this Leafhorn's eyes are glowing just like the strange Frigeon's eyes?

"Leeee-forn. Leeee-forn. Leeee-forn." He really doesn't sound like a normal Leafhorn either!

The Leafhorn swings his head and takes a step closer to you! "Leeee-forn. Leeee-forn. Leeee-forn." It seems like he doesn't want you to go any further!

"Leeee-forn. Leeee-forn. Leeee-forn. Leeee-forn..."

The portable mon scanner starts glowing again! It seems like you might be able to follow that strange Frigeon after all!

It seems like Tamounda already won the fight against Leafhorn!

You look back and see Tamounda trotting down the hill after you! When he gets to the bottom of the hill he looks up at you and says "Ta...mounda?"

What? Tamounda has a strange expression on his face?

After everyone recovers you climb over the broken trees and see a hole in the ground!

You climb up to the edge of the hole and look down!

For a moment you don't hear anything but then you hear "Ram-ram!" It sounds like Ramster is down there!

When you get to the bottom you look around and see Ramster lying on the ground! It seems like you're in some kind of hallway!

What? You just realized that you don't see the strange girl anywhere? You start to look around when you suddenly hear something from above you!

Ramster points over your shoulder and says "Ram-ram!"

You turn around and see a Rabbadrab, and a mon that looks like a pair of orange and white raccoons!

The Rabbadrab looks at you and says "Rabbadrab!"

The Racclones look at each other nod and then look at you and both say "Racclone!" at the same time!

What? You think these are probably the Rabbadrab and the Racclone that were missing? You're probably right!

What? You just noticed a glowing light retreating away down the hallway into the darkness?

The Racclones nod at each other and say "Racclone!" and then start trying to push Rabbadrab up the side!

Clambreak swoops down and clamps around Rabbadrab's scruff! It's trying to pull Rabbadrab up while the Racclones push from underneath!

The Racclones look at you and both say "Racclone!" They can't hold up the Rabbadrab anymore!

What? You're already running down the hallway?

The Racclones look at each other and say "Racclone!"

You keep feeling your way down the dark hall. Suddenly you see a glowing crystal in a big dark room! The strange girl is sitting in a big chair! It seems like her eyes aren't glowing as brightly! Now that you're closer, you can see that she really isn't a human girl! It looks like she has a pair of horns on her head!

What? You think she might be a human-type mon?

She looks at you and says "You shouldn't have followed me here. Those other mons caught me by surprise. But even in my current state, an Auroara is more than a match for a mon like you."

What? Does this mean she's a human-type mon called an Auroara?

Auroara starts to sit up but then she cries out in pain and sits back down!

What? The glowing crystal just cracked again? Do you think it has something to do with Auroara?

You look at Auroara!

"Your crystal?"

"It's just an energy source. I can get energy elsewhere. You had better not come any closer. Or you'll... you'll find out how much energy I need."

It seems like Auroara is really in pain! You're not sure what to do!

Auroara looks at you and asks "Who was that human woman?"

What? Auroara is asking about Starr? You can't help taking a step backward!

It's possible to reach a middle ground here. We have Plumtree's schemes to stop, friends to save, and Traders to scare off. If we can talk Auroara into coming along but she can't stand, we can have her lean on Mashi's shoulder and get her a wheelchair back in Ferropolis. From there, we should try to help her be less dependent on Mon energy to function. Getting around on two feet rather than levitating would be a good start.

"Professor Bean!"

Auroara looks up at you and asks "Who?" You had better tell her more!

"He could help!"

"I doubt he could help. If you've never seen an accretion slab, this Professor Bean probably doesn't know anything about energy accumulation." You're not sure what Auroara is talking about, but at least she's talking to you! "And I don't even have enough energy to leave this room." Auroara's head sinks down again. It seems like she's pretty upset!

You take a step closer and crouch down so you can see her face.

"I can help!"

It seems like what you said worked! Even though you can't see Auroara's eyes, you can see that she's smiling! "Yes, little mon, I think you can help me." Auroara tilts her head up and looks at you!

What? Now that you can see Auroara's eyes, you don't think she's very happy?

What? You think she still looks pretty hungry?

Suddenly Auroara leaps at you and tackles you before you can do anything! You fall backward with her on top of you! Auroara grabs your arms and pins you down! You didn't realize she was so strong! You try to kick your legs and escape but you can't move, no matter how hard you try!

Auroara leans in a little closer! You try to look away but you can't move your head because you're so scared!

"You only have a little energy. But I can't be picky right now." Auroara opens her mouth and leans down toward you!

You can't help closing your eyes and crying because you're so scared!

"Tamounda!"

What? Tamounda is here?

"Ram-ram!"

You and Auroara look across the room and see Tamounda and Ramster in the doorway! Auroara glares at Tamounda and Ramster and says "I'll deal with you in a moment."

"Waddabeah!"

"Chompex!"

[SFX: double shell clap]

It looks like Starr's mons are here too!

"Rabbadrab!"

"Leeee-forn!"

"Frigooo!"

"Racclone!"

What? All the other mons are here too? They all look pretty upset!

Auroara looks at the other mons and says "Get away, all of you! Don't you understand? I need her energy!"

"Ram-ram!" Ramster takes a step forward!

"Tamounda!" Tamounda takes a step forward!

"Chompex!"

"Racclone!"

All the other mons take a step forward!

Auroara looks at the other mons and then looks down at you and asks "What did you say that professor's name is?"

It seems like Auroara wants to meet Professor Bean!

You and all the other mons climb up out of the hole! After you climb out you hear the sound of struggling! You look back into the hole!

What? Auroara is trying to climb out instead of flying out? It seems like she can't fly right now! You reach your hands down to help Auroara out but she just glares at you and keeps trying to climb out on her own! "I don't need your help!"

After Auroara climbs out, you and all the other mons walk back to where you left Starr at the bottom of the hill. She hasn't moved at all! You crouch down next to Starr and turn her over. It seems like Starr is still sleeping!

When you look up at Auroara she says "That human will remain asleep." Auroara glances up at you. "For now."

"Waddabeah!" Waterbear looks at Chompex and points at Starr! He walks up to her feet and tries to lift them up! "Waddabeah!"

Chompex says "Chompex!" and sticks his head under Starr's neck and tries to lift it up! "Chompex!"

Clambreak flies around and looks at them but it can't do anything to help! It seems like they can't quite lift Starr!

"Tamounda!" What? is helping?

Tamounda squeezes under Starr's back and lifts her up!

"Chompex!"

"Waddabeah!"

Waterbear and Chompex look at Tamounda and smile and then they all start carrying Starr back up the hill!

Auroara looks at them and then looks at you. "Where are we going?"

What? You just realized Auroara doesn't know very much about human cities?

"Ferropolis!"

You and all the other mons keep walking back the way you came! You walk for the rest of the night and get back to Ferropolis just as the sun is rising! It seems like everything is working out!

What? You just remembered that Auroara needs a hat to fool humans into thinking she's a human girl?

You start to walk down the hill to Ferropolis.

You look behind you and see all of the other mons running after you! It seems like none of the other mons want to be left with Auroara! They all carry Starr and hurry to catch up with you and Tamounda!

When you get into Ferropolis, you stop and look around.

What? You're not sure where to find a hat? Well, what do you know about finding hats in human cities?

You think about when Joe first tried to find you a hat in Rust City!

What? You just remembered Joe tried to go to a store to buy you a hat?

"Ram-ram!"

Ramster is tugging on your shirt! It seems like he sees something!

You look across the street and see a window with a lot of hats on display! That must be a store that sells hats! You're sure you can find a hat for Auroara here!

What? You just remembered that you need money to buy things? You don't have any money because you gave all your coins to Starr so she could give them to Donaldo!

"Huh? Hey, where are we, kid?" It seems like Starr just woke up!

Suddenly you hear a voice behind you! "Hey, you, the girl in the red baseball cap!" It doesn't sound very friendly!

You turn around and see one of the human mon trainers you and Starr saw in the Ferropolis Arena yesterday!

Starr doesn't know what to think! She looks at you and asks "Where did all these mons come from?"

What? More humans from the Ferropolis Arena are running across the street? It seems like you're attracting a crowd! Frigeon flies up off the sidewalk and lands on the other human man's arm and says "Frigooo!"

The other human man can't believe it! "Frigeon!" He looks at you and Starr and says "Thank you for finding my Frigeon!"

"Who cares about some flying-type mon?" Another human shoves her way through the crowd and looks at Leafhorn! "My precious little Leafhorn!"

Leafhorn looks up at the human woman and says "Leee-forn!" It seems like Leafhorn is happy to see her!

The humans are looking at you! You can't help your cheeks from turning red! The human man with the Frigeon on his shoulder says "Sorry about the other day. You two are welcome in the Ferropolis Arena any time." What? The other humans are nodding? It seems like they don't think you and Starr stole their mons!

"Racclone!" What? You just realized that Racclone is still here?

"Hey, it's a Racclone!" Starr can't believe it! "You really are my lucky charm, kid!"

The Racclones look up at Starr and say "Racclone!" and then look at you!

What? You're not sure what to do about Racclone? Well, how did you find out Racclone was missing in the first place?

"Professor Bean!"

You didn't mean to say that out loud! You look down at Racclone.

"Come with us!"

The Racclones look up at you and say "Racclone!"

You and Starr and the other mons walk to Professor Bean's laboratory. When you get closer, you see Professor Bean outside with a little human child. When Professor Bean sees Starr he can't believe it! "Oh! It's Mayor! The you of... I mean... this is Tinville... I mean..."

What? You just realized that the little human child is actually an old human man?

The old human man can't believe it! "Racclone!"

The Racclones both look at the old human man and say "Racclone!"

The old human man is looking at you and Starr! "I don't know how you did it, but thank you for finding my Racclone!" The old human man reaches into his pocket and hands you each a sack. "This isn't much, but please accept this."

It feels like the sack is full of coins!

Starr looks in her sack and says "15 coins? Thanks, your mayorness!"

It seems like you might be able to buy a hat for Auroara!

"Amazing!" Professor Bean taps the buttons on the portable mon scanner and says "It looks like you were able to use it successfully over a long distance. I'll keep working on fine-tuning it." Professor Bean looks up at Starr and says "I'd be happy to demonstrate you... I mean..."

"Yeah, you do that." Starr looks at you and says "Come on, the Professor probably has a lot to think about."

When you and Starr walk away from Professor Bean's lab, Starr asks "Hey, are you gonna tell me what happened last night, or what?"

You're not sure what to say! You look at the other mons.

"Chompex!" What? Chompex is trying to get Starr's attention?

"Waddabeah!"

Starr's mons are all trying to get Starr's attention!

Starr looks at you and says "I guess it doesn't matter as long as we got this reward. Come on, let's go back to the arena and see if anyone there is going to be at the you-know-what."

Starr sees you looking at the hat shop and says "Going shopping? Well, come find me at the arena when you're done. Come on, guys."

You walk up to the hat shop!

What? You're scared to go inside?

Tamounda looks up at you and says "Tamounda?"

Ramster looks at you and says "Ram-ram!"

You open the door and go inside! All the walls are stuffed full of hats! You didn't realize there were this many hats in Ferropolis!

"May I help you, miss?" The human woman behind the counter is looking at you!

What? You just remembered Auroara needs a wide hat to cover her horns? Well, you had better tell the human woman!

You look at the human woman!

"A wide hat!"

"That's a new one. Well, this is the widest hat I have in stock." The human woman holds up a pink hat with a bow on it. "What do you think?"

You look at the human woman!

"How much?"

The human woman looks at the hat. It seems like she's thinking about something! "Since it's not very fashionable anymore, I'll sell it to you for 5 coins."

What a deal!

You take out your sack of coins and give the human woman 5 coins. The human woman gives you the hat!

Ramster says "Ram-ram!"

Tamounda looks up at you and says "Tamounda!"

You had better take the hat back to Auroara as quickly as you can!

"Oh, you're finally here." Auroara sits up from the tall grass! She looks pretty hungry! When Auroara sees the hat you bought her, she looks up at you and says "This human... Professor Bean. He doesn't know you're a mon, does he?"

You're shaking your head!

"It's a secret!"

"We'll see how long that lasts." Auroara tries to stand up but she's too weak!

"Tamounda!" Tamounda tries to help Auroara up but she pushes him away!

"I can do it myself, mon." It seems like Auroara really is determined to stand up without help but she can't do it!

What? You're going to help Auroara stand up even though she tried to take your energy?

You crouch down and grab Auroara! She struggles a little but then she lets you help her stand up!

Tamounda trots around the two of you in a circle and says "Tamounda!"

"Ram-ram!" Ramster is pointing at Ferropolis!

You help Auroara all the way to Professor Bean's lab! A few humans look at you but no one says anything. It seems like the hat really does work!

When you get to Professor Bean's lab he sees you and says "Oh! You're back! Is your friend..." Professor Bean stops when he sees Auroara! "Here, sit down! What's the matter? Are you injured?"

Auroara looks at Professor Bean. "This is going to be difficult for you to understand." Auroara takes her hat off without hesitating at all!

Professor Bean can't believe it! "You're... you're a human-type mon!"

"I am no such thing!" It looks like Auroara is pretty upset! She looks at you and Ramster and Tamounda and says "I am an Auroara! I am nothing like... like..."

What? Is Auroara going to tell Professor Bean that you're really a mon?

"...Like those two creatures."

"Hmm..." Professor Bean waves his portable mon scanner at Auroara. "Any incongruities are likely cultural. From a purely scientific viewpoint, there is no functional difference between you and a mon." Professor Bean looks closely at his portable mon scanner and says "You have an unusual energy pattern, though. I've never seen a mon's energy pattern quite like this."

Auroara is glaring at Professor Bean! She looks pretty scary! "I. Am not. A mon."

Professor Bean can't help taking a step backward! "Your energy level is also extremely low. When's the last time you challenged another... I mean, challenged a mon?"

"What do you mean?" Auroara doesn't seem to know what Professor Bean is talking about! "I recover energy from accretion slabs."

Professor Bean tucks his portable mon scanner back in his pocket. "Well, mons get their energy by fighting and defeating other mons in single combat. We could start with a series of controlled matches..."

"I told you, I am not a mon!"

Let's try to deescalate this situation before the conversation becomes too abrasive, then keep it focused on how to literally get Auroara back on her feet again. Battling in public would be a bad idea, especially right after slipping out of Copper Citadel and with the Traders in town. The best thing we could do is find out more about Auroara's predicament and figure out where she could battle out of the public eye. Besides, she could use the time to recover and walk again before doing so. Mashi, Ramster who probably scared the shit out of her, or Tamounda could spar with her if necessary as well.

"I was assigned to Tower Four."

Professor Bean looks up from his notepad. "Tower Four?"

"Near where they found me." Auroara glances at you. It seems like Auroara doesn't know what to say!

You look at Professor Bean!

"The ruins!"

"Oh, the ruins." Professor Bean writes something on his notepad and then looks back up. "Um... the ruins? You don't mean you were one of the... but that was thousands of years ago! How could you possibly still be alive?"

"The accretion slab. It kept me asleep. I only woke up a few days ago." Auroara glances at you and says "I was... hungry."

Professor Bean keeps writing on his notepad. "Yes, you mentioned that. Your primary energy source. Did its depletion cause you to wake up?"

Auroara shakes her head and says "I don't know why I woke up. The accretion slab still had energy. Enough to sleep at least another thousand years."

"Hmm... Professor Ginger was recently in the area." Professor Bean looks up from his notepad at Auroara. "Perhaps she can shed some light on the matter."

What? Professor Bean wants to tell Professor Ginger about Auroara? You're not sure if that's a good idea! You had better do something quickly!

"Auroara is hungry!"

Everyone is looking at you! You can't help your cheeks turning red!

Professor Bean puts his notepad and pencil back in his labcoat pocket. "Um... well, it is true that your internal energy reserve is quite low." He looks at Auroara and says "That could be exacerbating any difficulties you're experiencing."

"The accretion slab seems to be near the end of its use. I don't know how much energy I can recover from it."

What? Professor Bean is already taking a step backward? It seems like he's about to say something Auroara doesn't like! "As I said, we could start with a series of controlled matches."

Auroara is glaring at Professor Bean! "I am not fit for combat."

Auroara glances at Tamounda and then looks at you. "I don't have enough energy for another Aurora Pulse."

What? You just remembered Booker told you most mons have two special abilities? You look at Auroara!

"Aurora Pulse... and E-Drain." Auroara glances at Tamounda. "Takeover is one of my attacks."

What? You just realized most mons have two attacks?

Auroara glances upward and then looks at you. What? Auroara has a strange expression on her face? It seems like she's embarrassed about something! "My... I have a Horns attack."

It seems like this is your chance! You give Auroara a determined look!

I'm assuming this is referring to the explosive-type laboratory. If so, it's best to train here for a while longer. As helpful as it would be to get a wider variety of Mon for Auroara to fight, exposing her true identity in public would have dangerous consequences. We should try to find Mon other than those in the arena for her to fight. It'd be great if we can trust Starr, but we don't know if we can yet. If necessary, Mashi could spar with Auroara until we find more Mon to duel. Maybe Prof. Bean would know about happenings around Ferropolis.

Ramster and Tamounda follow you out of the lab toward the Ferropolis Arena.

What? Someone is calling for you! You look behind you and see Auroara wearing the hat you gave her! She's trying to catch up but she can't move very quickly! "I didn't think I should be around when that other human arrives."

It seems like Auroara doesn't want Professor Ginger to know about her!

You lead Auroara and the other mons to the Ferropolis Arena. Inside, you see the manager who shouted at you the other day!

"Oh, it's you! Listen, the mon trainers told me everything. Your friend Starr is on the arena floor."

When you find Starr she looks at you and says "Hey kid, I was just about to come find you. If we leave right now, we might be able to make it there by dark.... huh?" Starr glances at Auroara and then whispers "Hey, who's that girl?"

You look at Auroara!

"A friend!"

"Yeah, well, it seems your friend can hardly stand. Speaking of which..." Starr reaches into the backpack and pulls out the crackers! "Feeding time, you guys!"

"Waddabeah!"

"Chompex!"

[SFX: double shell clap]

Starr gives one cracker to Clambreak, two crackers to Waterbear, and three crackers to Chompex!

"Ram-ram!"

What? Ramster wants to be fed? You look at Starr's mons and then give Ramster a cracker!

"Ram-ram!" It seems like Ramster is pretty happy!

"Tamounda!" What? Tamounda wants to be fed? It looks like the crackers are almost gone!

Your stomach is rumbling! It wouldn't hurt to eat one cracker, right?

You eat one cracker!

"Come on, let's go." Starr leads you and all the other mons out of Ferropolis toward the canyon.

A mon that looks like a huge red snake with an anglerfish lure crawls out from the woods! It's Rattletrap!

Auroara shifts her stance and gives Rattletrap and Diamond a determined look! Auroara glances at you and says "One mon and one human against the two of us."

"Oh, you should listen to this Cutémon, little Auroara. She's a regular chatterbox, you know." Diamond glances to the side and says "Trent! Stop skulking and come earn your pay."

What? You just noticed a glowing pair of red eyes in the woods? Suddenly Trent the bounty hunter walks out of the woods with a mon on his shoulder that looks like a white cat with glowing red eyes and an exposed brain!

It's Catscan!

Catscan stands up on Trent's shoulder and then leaps down onto the ground and glares up at Auroara and says "Catscannn..."

Diamond glances back at Trent and says "You see, Trent? This is why I always drive with the windows down. You never know when you're going to hear something interesting."

Catscan paces closer to Auroara and says "Catscannn..."

"Sssssssss..." What? Rattletrap is slithering around behind you? You can't help taking a step backward!

You bump into Auroara's back! The two of you glance at each other!

Diamond crosses her arms. "Rattletrap!"

Trent crosses his arms. "Catscan!"

"Tamounda!"

"Tamounda!" What? Tamounda is back?

Tamounda licks Catscan!

What? Catscan is looking at Rattletrap instead of you? "Catscannn..."

Catscan is challenging Rattletrap!

Catscan attacks before Rattletrap was ready!

Rattletrap drops you on the ground! You look up and Catscan is staring at you! "Catscannn..."

Diamond, Rattletrap, and Trent all stand over you! Diamond glares at Tamounda and says "My arena already has enough mops. It's these two human-type mons I'm interested in. Now shoo, before I have you made into stuffing."

What? You're worried about Auroara, but you think Diamond can lead you to Joe and your other captured friends?

Well, what are you going to do?

You leap to your feet and chase after them!

You keep chasing Diamond into the woods!

Diamond glances over her shoulder at you and keeps running away! It seems like they're going to escape!

You had better say something to make Diamond stop!

What? You don't know what to say to Diamond to make her stop? Well, what's the worst thing you can think of?

"Diamond kisses Rattletrap!"

You didn't mean to say that out loud, but it seems like it worked! Diamond stops running away and turns around and glares at you! It looks like she's pretty angry!

Rattletrap sees Diamond stop and turns around and asks "Sssssssss?"

What? Diamond is holding up her hand at Trent? Diamond is still glaring at you! "Trent, you take Rattletrap and Catscan and go back to the car. This mon is getting a little too talkative." Diamond reaches behind her and pulls out a thin rod and taps it against her other hand! "I'll make sure she's quiet for the car ride by myself."

Trent can't believe it! "Are you sure about that?"

Diamond glares at Trent!

Trent takes a step backward and then looks at Rattletrap. "Come on, you." Trent and the mons leave you alone with Diamond!

This thing is a hot rock. The Traders would be pissed enough if their car was stolen, but it would be even worse if it was a registered vehicle, let alone they stole it from someone else. Maybe Starr has an idea of sorts, but it'd be funny if another Mon swallowed it, assuming there's no toxic metal inside.

What? Ramster is asleep? It seems like he slept through the entire fight!

"Hey, kid." Starr and Auroara are still looking at you! Starr waves your baseball cap and says "I think we need to talk." She looks at it and then hands it to you.

You sit down in front of the fire with Starr and Auroara and put your baseball cap back on.

What? You put your baseball cap back on without thinking about it? It seems like you're used to wearing it!

Starr is grinning at you! "You sure fooled me." She glances at Auroara. "Both of you." What? Starr is looking at you closely? You can't help your cheeks turning red! Starr looks at you a little more and says "I've never seen a human-type mon before." Starr looks at Auroara. "I didn't think I would ever see two."

What? You just realized Starr doesn't know Ward is also a human-type mon? You're not sure what to say!

"We were once common." You and Starr both look at Auroara and Auroara nods. "I can remember..."

Auroara is looking up at the stars! "During the great battles. Our ranks filled the sky."

Starr looks at Auroara and asks "Hey, you really are from back then, when the ruins were new, aren't you?"

"Yes." Auroara is still looking at the stars. "It was... less confusing."

Starr glances at you. "And you, what's your story? How'd you end up competing in the Copper Citadel Arena with those two?"

What? Starr wants to know about you? You reach into your jacket pocket and feel the Cutécaptor!

What? You're not sure if you want to tell Starr and the others about the cutécaptor? You look at Starr!

Starr is still looking at you! You had better say something!

"Joe and Mashi."

"Oh..." Starr looks at you more closely! "Are those your friends? Is there anyone else?"

You're nodding your head!

Auroara looks at you and asks "Who?"

"Ram-ram!" What? Ramster just woke up? He's looking around all over the place! It seems like he woke up because he heard you talking about Sailater!

Ramster notices Auroara isn't wearing her hat and looks at you and asks "Ram-ram?"

You look at Ramster and point at Starr!

"Starr will help!"

Ramster grins at Starr and says "Ram-ram!"

Auroara is looking at you! "Those humans... the Traders. They'll keep hunting you, and now they'll hunt me, won't they?" Auroara looks down at the fire. "Even if we can find those other humans again, I don't have enough energy to make them forget what happened here."

"They were probably headed to the mon fighting canyon. I guess we can forget about... huh?" Starr is looking at the car key in your hand!

What? You just remembered you have Diamond's car key? You hold it up so Starr can see it!

"Hey, is that..." Starr can't believe it! "Did you get that from Diamond?"

You're nodding your head!

"She dropped it!"

Starr is grinning!

Auroara leans in and looks at the key. "What is it?"

"It's Diamond's car key." Starr glances at Auroara and back at the key. "There's no way a princess like Diamond would walk all the way there." Starr looks up at you. "If we hurry, we might be able to get to the canyon and take a look at who else is there before Diamond can hitch a ride."

What? Starr is saying you might be able to beat Diamond to the canyon because Diamond doesn't like to walk? You look at Starr and nod!

Starr points at Diamond's car key. "Hey, hide that someplace where no one will find it."

What? Starr wants you to hide Diamond's car key? You look around but all you see are trees and the other mons!

"Chompex!" What? Chompex is looking up at you?

What? You just realized he's looking at the car key? "Chompex!" He jumps up and swallows the car key before you can do anything!

"Well, that's one way to hide it." Starr looks at Auroara. "Come on, let's go."

What? Auroara is shaking her head? "I should stay behind. I'm slowing your progress."

"Tamounda!"

"Chompex!"

"Waddabeah!"

Tamounda, Chompex, and Waterbear are all working together to lift up Auroara! The three of them start carrying Auroara toward you and Starr!

Auroara can't believe it! They carry Auroara past you and Starr while Auroara looks around and then Starr looks at you!

Starr is grinning at you! "Hey, we've all gotta stick together if we're gonna rescue your friends, right?"

You and your friends walk through the woods all night! It seems like you're going to be at the canyon in a few hours!

You walk some more and after a while the ground starts to get rockier. It looks like you're getting closer to the canyon!

Suddenly the ground underneath you starts shaking and a huge mon that looks like a giant woolly caterpillar with two paddles bursts out of the ground! It's a Wooleeper!

[SFX: roar]

What? Auroara has a strange expression on her face?

Auroara gives Wooleeper a determined look!

Wooleeper lifts itself up off the ground and drops itself back down!

Clambreak and Chompex go tumbling! Starr can't believe it! "Waterbear, get ready for... huh?" Auroara runs past Starr toward Wooleeper!

Auroara jumps at Wooleeper and pokes him with both horns at the same time! Wooleeper can't stand the pain and flees back underground!

Auroara looks at you! What? You're both grinning at each other? Even though Auroara didn't recover very much energy, she's still proud because she used her Horns attack correctly!

Suddenly the ground starts shaking again!

[SFX: distant puff sound]

It's another Wooleeper!

...It seems like the other Wooleeper doesn't even know you're here!

What? Auroara is already running over to challenge it?

Auroara looks at you and Starr and asks "Is this... is this what it feels like? Every time you fight?"

You're grinning at Auroara!

"It depends on how much energy the other mon had." Starr glances at the holes from the Wooleepers and looks at Auroara. "A mon with a lot of energy is harder to beat, but it gives off more energy if you can beat it."

"Ram-ram!" Ramster is tugging on your shirt collar! It seems like he just noticed something!

You look around and see a car driving along the ridge from the opposite direction! Auroara quickly puts on her hat and everyone hides and watches as the car slows down and turns down a path!

Starr peeks out and stands up. "That's the canyon up ahead."

What? You're afraid to go into the canyon?

Starr glances at you and says "Hey, you wanted to find the Traders, right?"

You give the canyon a determined look!

Everyone starts walking down into the canyon!

Suddenly, another car drives up behind you! You start to look around for a place to hide!

Starr glances at you and says "Keep walking. Act like you belong here."

You keep walking and the car drives around you! The wheels make a cloud of dust!

Tamounda sneezes and says "Ta-pew!

Chompex sneezes and says "Chom-pew!"

When the dust clears you see at least a dozen humans and at least a dozen mons!

What? You just noticed some cages with mons inside? The mons inside the cages don't look very happy!

Starr glances at you and Auroara. "I don't see Diamond, but keep your hats on tight. And make sure Tamounda and Ramster don't attract any attention."

Ramster whispers "Ram-ram!"

Tamounda hides behind you and says "Tamounda!"

You and the other mons follow Starr into the crowd!

"VO-LITO!"

What? Volito is in one of the cages? You can't believe it!

Volito stars rocking his cage and says "VO-LITO!" He's pretty happy to see you!

You look at Volito's cage!

Haystinger flies up into the air before Chompex can bite it and then flies down again to try and sting him!

It seems like Haystinger is a very fast flying-type mon!

Starr glances at you again and says "It cost me 10 coins to enter this, but if we can put in a strong showing now, we might get invited to the private matches tonight. Hey, how about you do that trick again? You know, the one you did in the Copper Citadel Arena?"

Suddenly the crowd of humans moves enough so you can see the other human mon trainer walking up the canyon toward Waterbear! Behind him is a little mon the same size as Waterbear that looks like a purple octopus! It's a Plodapod! The Plodapod bobs up and down as it slides onto the arena floor and says "Ploda! Pod!"

Waterbear looks at Plodapod and says "Waddabeah!" He looks pretty confident!

It seems like this is going to be an easy win for Waterbear!


Waterbear is challenging Plodapod!

Waterbear attacks with Hydrant!

Plodapod is using Balloon!


What? Plodapod knows Balloon? Waterbear shoots a big stream of water at Plodapod but Plodapod sucks it all up! Plodapod keeps sucking up all the water until Waterbear's bubble is gone and Waterbear falls on the ground!

What? Volito isn't even floating? He's just lying on the bottom of the cage! When you peek up, Volito glances at you and says "Vo... lito..." and puts his head back down!

"Is someone there? You had better not be trying to steal any of our mons!"

It's the human woman who shouted at you earlier today! You crouch down behind one of the cages as quickly as you can!

"I know you're there! I can hear you!" The human woman is getting closer! She sounds pretty angry!

"Tamounda!" What? Tamounda sneaked around to the other side of the cages?

"Aaah! Get out of here, you filthy thing! I don't want you giving my mons any diseases!"

You peek back up at Volito while the human woman is distracted!

Volito glances up at you but he doesn't say anything! It seems like he's pretty sad! You had better get him out of the cage right away!

"She exists, and it won't be long before I have her in my arena. The little girl, the old man, and the Torrentani are all still hypnotized from my Rattletrap's lure. I have a plan to use them as bait and lure that Cutémon into a trap."

"Where are those other two, anyway?"

"They're all safely tucked away inside my arena for now."

"Well, now, this is getting to be a familiar sight." You look behind you and see Diamond and Raul! "That's the Cutémon I've been telling you about."

Raul can't believe it! "And I didn't even..." He glances at Yuccaza and says "Yuccaza, take them both down!"

You look down and see Starr and your other friends! Waterbear, Clambreak, and Ramster seem to be pretty happy! Starr and Auroara bend down and pick them up and hold them in the air! Chompex is hopping around at their feet!

It seems like they might have won the match!

She points at the map and says "We're here, where the X is." Starr moves her finger down the map and says "We're not too far from Leadport, and Bronze Valley is just across the bay."

Starr looks at the travel map. It seems like she's thinking about something! "It's a long walk from here all the way to Bronze Valley. Usually, people take ships back and forth across the bay, but seaports have the same kind of mon detectors as arenas, so it might be hard to find a boat."

What? You just remembered your car was parked in the Rust City Arena? You didn't have any money to buy gas for it before, but you have plenty of money for gas now!

What? You just remembered Diamond left her car in the woods nearby and Chompex has the key?

What? You just realized that you wouldn't all be able to fit into the car parked in the Rust City Arena? It seems like Diamond's car has a lot more room!

Starr points at your travel map and says "I'm pretty sure there's a town on the way to Bronze Valley, but we only have half a tank of gas so we'll have to fill up with gas in Leadport before we drive that way."

"Vo..."

"Hey, that Volito doesn't look so good! Maybe we should take him to Professor Junior."

What? Starr thinks you should take Volito to Professor Bean?

Starr points at your travel map. "We have just enough gas to get back to Ferropolis. We could be there in an hour or two."

You look down at Volito and he looks up at you and says "Vo..." It seems like he's almost out of energy!

You hold your finger out to him!

What? You're closing your eyes as tightly as you can so you're ready for the pain? You peek one eye open!

What? Volito is already biting you?

Starr glances away from the road at you and Volito. "What are you doing?"

"Volito needs energy!"

What? Starr is shaking her head? "You can't just give him energy by letting him attack you. It has to be a real defeat where you tried your hardest."

What? You don't think Volito has enough energy to fight? You don't know what to do!

"Hey, don't worry." Starr turns the wheel and the car starts to slow down. "I just saw a pond. We can probably find a really weak mon around here." What? Starr is looking out the window and stopping the car? It seems like you might have to stop until you can find a mon for Volito to beat up!

What? Auroara is crouching down next to Tamounda? "Is Tamounda still brave? I think you can help that Volito."

Tamounda looks at Auroara and then at Volito and says "Tamounda!" It seems like he's going to try to fight Volito!

You put Volito down on the grass and he looks up at you.

"Challenge Tamounda, Volito!"

Volito looks at Tamounda and starts crawling toward him! "Vo..."


Volito is challenging Tamounda!

Tamounda is fleeing the fight!

Tamounda escapes!


"Don't run, Tamounda!"

Tamounda looks over his shoulder at you and says "Tamounda..."

You and Auroara both give Tamounda determined looks!

"Tamounda is brave!"

"You're the only one who can help Volito!"

Ramster shakes a pair of tiny pom-poms and says "Ram-ram!"

Tamounda looks up at you and says "Tamounda!" and trots around in a circle and then back toward Volito! "Tamounda!"

What? Tamounda is already shaking? It seems like he's about to run away! Tamounda turns around to run away!

Suddenly, Auroara nudges Volito with her foot and Volito bites Tamounda's tail!

Tamounda says "Tamounda!" and hops in the air and runs away!

"Vo...lito..." It seems like Volito has a little more energy!

What? You just noticed Starr walking back toward you? She's carrying a mon that looks like a shiny blue beetle! It's a Wintivil!

The Wintivil looks up at you and Auroara and says "Wintivil!"

Starr puts the Wintivil on the grass in front of Volito. "This is the weakest mon I could find."

"Hey, come help me with this Wintivil!" Starr grabs the Wintivil and puts it back in front of Volito.

It seems like the Wintivil doesn't want to fight Volito! It's wiggling its legs and starts waddling away as soon as Starr puts it on the grass! "Wintivil!"

You take off your jacket and put it on the grass next to Ramster and run over to Volito. Starr picks up the Wintivil again and looks at you. "Ready?"

You're nodding your head!

Starr puts the Wintivil in front of Volito as quickly as she can!

What? You just noticed Ramster found your video game? He isn't even watching the fight!

Tamounda starts digging around in Starr's backpack and pulls out the empty box of crackers. "Tamounda?"

What? Tamounda is sticking his nose in your jacket pocket? It's probably because he's hungry! Tamounda lifts his head up with your jacket over his nose and everything falls out!

What? The cutécaptor just fell out of your jacket pocket? It's rolling down the hill toward the pond!

"Ram-ram!"

"Tamounda!"

Ramster and Tamounda start running after the cutécaptor! You start running down the hill after them!

Tamounda bumps Ramster with his nose and Ramster stumbles faster and faster and grabs the cutécaptor just before it goes into the pond!

Ramster stands up and holds the cutécaptor up in the air and looks up the hill at you and says "Ram-ram!"

[SFX: splash]

"Gulpa!"

What? A Gulpanga just jumped out of the water onto the shore? The Gulpanga grabs the cutécaptor from Ramster and flops back into the water and swims away!

"Hey, what was that pink ball?"

What? Starr saw the cutécaptor?

Who says we need to challenge Gulpanga in the water? Mashi can wrap her hair around the fish and fling it out of the water. It would suffocate on the captor and from a lack of water, weakening it enough to pull the captor out of its mouth and throw it back into the pond. Make Gulpanga think about if the captor is really something it wants to risk dying over.

What? You just realized Rudy's ghost might have been helping you look scary in front of Stareoid?

You look back up at Starr! All her mons are gathered around the edge of the pond!

It seems like you'll have to get it back yourself! You jump into the pond!

"Hey, kid! Are you alright?" Starr looks at Waterbear and says "Waterbear, get her out of there!"

"Waddabeah!" Waterbear jumps into the pond and swims over to you and pulls you back to the shore!

Starr crouches down next to you and asks "Are you alright?"

You can't help coughing!

Starr glances up at Waterbear. "Waterbear, can you get that pink ball back?"

Waterbear says "Waddabeah!" and dives back underwater!

What? You can see Waterbear swimming back up to the surface as quickly as he can? Waterbear swims toward the shore and says "Waddabeah!"

What? You can see the Gulpanga swimming back up to the surface as quickly as it can? It seems like Waterbear was running away from it!

The Gulpanga flies straight up out of the pond into the air and says "Gulpa!"

What? You can see something huge moving up to the surface?

Suddenly an enormous Gulpanga that's as big as the entire pond breaks the surface and opens its mouth!


Gigapanga is challenging Gulpanga!

Gigapanga attacks with Gigulp!


Gigapanga swallows Gigulp and then sinks back into the pond!

Suddenly the cutécaptor flies out of the pond into the air!

What? Starr grabbed the cutécaptor? It looks like she's about to use it!

You grab it out of Starr's hands as quickly as you can!

"Hey, what is that thing, anyway?"

You look over your shoulder at Starr and then back at the cutécaptor.

Starr can't believe it! "Hey, I wanna know why it's so important that it almost got Waterbear eaten!"

"Yeah?" Starr still looks pretty upset! "Important to who?"

What? Starr has a strange expression on her face? It seems like she's thinking about what you said!

Starr nods and says "Alright. I just don't like my partner keeping secrets from me. You didn't steal it from someone, did you?"

What? Starr is asking if you stole the cutécaptor? You don't know what to say!

Starr opens her mouth but suddenly Auroara says "If Volito has enough energy, we should keep moving."

Starr glances at Auroara and nods. "You're right." Starr starts to walk back up the hill away from the pond toward the car and looks back over her shoulder at you. "We can talk about... whatever that is later."

Everyone else starts walking back toward the car. You put the cutécaptor back in your jacket pocket as run up the hill after them as quickly as you can!

You climb into the car next to Tamounda and Starr drives it back down the road toward Leadport. After a while you can see a huge metal bridge in the distance! It looks like there are a lot of strange human buildings around here.

What? You just noticed Starr is looking around and the car is slowing down? She stops the car near a human man and rolls down her window and shouts "Hey, where can we get some gas around here?"

"Out-of-towners, huh? First time in Leadport?" The human man leans down and looks at you and the other mons! "You girls mon trainers?"

You can't help your cheeks turning red!

Starr glances at you and Auroara and says "Uh, yeah."

The human man stands back up and says "If all you're looking for is gas, there's a gas station right over there, but security gets pretty tight after you cross the bridge so don't plan on taking all those mons any further into the city unless you have a mon permit."

"A mon permit?" Starr glances at you and then looks back at the man and asks "How much is that?"

"100 coins per mon. No permit, no mons."

"Alright, thanks." Starr rolls her window back up and drives toward the gas station. "You heard him. Looks like we're gonna have to drive the entire way to Bronze Valley."

When you get to the gas station Starr reaches into her pocket and pulls out a sack of coins and says "I'll pay for this tank of gas, and you can pay for the next one. Deal?"

You're nodding your head!

After Starr buys a tank of gas she starts driving back away from the bridge but after you go past the pond she turns the car and starts driving toward the sun.

What? You just remembered Trent has a motorcycle? You turn around in your seat and try to look out the back but you can't see it! You turn back around and sink down in your seat as low as you can!

Starr is looking at you! "Hey, calm down. Just let me do the talking."

What? The motorcycle is stopping on your side of the car?

You peek out through the window!

What? There's a human woman on the motorcycle? Next to her is a mon that looks like a blue coyote! It's a Psyotee!

When you roll down your window the human woman asks "Are you lost?"

Starr leans Tamounda and shouts out your window "Yeah, we're looking for a town around here. It's called..."

"Patina. You're not too far. My name's Jennifer Apple. I own the gas station there."

"I'm Starr, and this is Mashi and, um..." Starr glances at Auroara and says "...Auroara."

Jennifer nods and says "Nice to meet you girls. Come on, you can follow me there. We're just heading home now." The human woman starts driving forward and says "Come on, Psyotee!"

The Psyotee says "Psyotee!" and runs after her!

What? The Psyotee just stopped running? He turns around and stands up on his back legs and sticks his snout through the window and sniffs your head!

"Joe!"

What? You just heard Psyotee say Joe's name in your mind? It seems like Psyote is a psychic-type mon!

"Psyotee! Get over here! You're going to scratch their paint!" Jennifer pats her leg and Psyotee turns around and runs back toward her and follows her up the road.

After the car stops moving Starr turns the key and the motor shuts off. "Hey, let me see that travel map."

You take your travel map out of your jacket pocket and hand it to Starr and she looks at it and points her finger at a spot.

"I think we're someplace around here." Starr hands you back the travel map and looks out her window. "This place is hardly a town. I bet it's too small to have an arena that isn't just a dirt pit."

"Tamounda!" Tamounda licks Psyotee and says "Tamounda!"

Psyotee licks Tamounda! "Psyotee!"

It seems like Tamounda and Psyotee are getting along! Maybe it's because they both have lick attacks!

Jennifer opens the door to the house and calls "Jane, sweetie! We've got company!"

When you get inside the house you see a human girl sitting in a chair facing the window.

What? You just realized the human girl looks familiar, but you've never been to Patina before?

What? You just realized it's the human girl in Joe's picture?

But Joe said that was his sister!

Suddenly Psyotee runs into the house with a lot of other mons behind him!

"Psyotee!"

All the mons race further into the house until you can't hear them anymore and Starr and Auroara walk in behind them. "Nice place. It's really just you and your daughter and your mon?"

"That's right. I have a son, but he's traveling the world right now." Jennifer smiles and looks at the window and says "When I saw your mons, I thought... he wants to be a famous mon trainer, you see. He hasn't called for almost two weeks and I'm just a bit..."

"What's the matter?" What? Auroara is looking at you now? It seems like she can tell you're thinking about something!

"Jane, this is Starr, Mashi, and Auroara. They're mon trainers too!" Jennifer looks at Starr and says "I'd better get supper started."

"I'll help."

Jennifer walks into another room and Starr follows her and leaves you and Auroara alone in the room with Volito and Jane.

What? You're not sure what to say to Auroara? You glance at Joe's sister and then shake your head at Auroara.

"Is that a Volito?"

What? Joe's sister is talking to you? Volito looks up from the floor and says "Vo..." and then goes back to sleep.

Jane looks down at Volito and smiles and says "My brother was talking about one of those the last time he called. It's nice to be able to see one like this."

After a little while Starr and Jennifer come back out with some plates of food and put it all on the table in front of Jane!

Jennifer grins at you and Auroara and says "It's been a while since I've cooked this much food! I hope you like it!"

"Ram-ram!" Ramster hops up on a chair and stretches up on his tiptoes to reach for it!

"Excuse me, Mashi?" What? Jane is looking at you? Jane glances at Volito and asks "Could I hold that Volito for a while?"

It seems like Jane can't reach down to grab Volito! You reach down and pick up Volito and put him on Jane's lap. Volito looks up at Jane and says "Vo..."

Jane picks up a small piece of food and holds it up to Volito.

What? Volito's eyes just opened?

"VO-LITO!"

Jane smiles at Jennifer and says "He likes your cooking, Mom."

"I haven't eaten like this in months." Starr looks at Jennifer. "Hey, I never asked. What's your son's name?"

"Joe!"

You didn't mean to say that out loud!

Everyone is looking at you! You can't help your cheeks turning red!

Jennifer can't believe it! "How did you know that?"

What? You're thinking about telling them everything? You're not sure where to begin!

What? You want my advice? Well, maybe you should start at the beginning!

"Professor Plumtree!"

"Wait a second, kid. Are you saying your friend Joe is..." Starr glances at Jennifer.

"Do you know where Joe is?" Jennifer is looking at you! "That professor had hired him to help with some research, but after that he went to Rust City. He did mention a girl he was traveling with."

What? Joe told his mother about you?

"Did something happen to Joe?"

You're nodding your head!

"Captured!"

"Captured? I don't..."

"Um, it's a little complicated. Your son and some people from the Rust City Arena are being held in the Bronze Valley Arena. We're going to get them out."

"Did Joe do something illegal?"

"It's nothing he did." Starr glances at you. "It's who he knows."

"We'll help you however we can."

"This Volito isn't fit to travel. Can we keep him here until they get back?"

What? Jane wants to keep Volito here with her?

"Well... you'll have to ask his trainer." Jennifer is looking at you!

"VO-LITO!" It seems like Volito is pretty happy you want to take him with you!

"I can't blame you. I wouldn't want to part with such a cute mon either." Jane pets Volito and says "We'll have to make sure you get a lot to eat before you leave."

"VO-LITO!

After everyone is finished eating, Jennifer shows you a room with a bed. It looks like you get the entire room all to yourself! You sit down on the bed and look around. There are a lot of books and magazines on the shelves and a lot of posters of human mon trainers on the walls!

What? You think this might be Joe's room? It seems like you might be right!

You lie back down on the bed and look at all the mons and humans on the posters. You see a Bellfly, a Haystinger, a Sparkelope...

...

You must have fallen asleep because it's already morning! You can hear everyone else talking in the other room. When you come out of Joe's room Jennifer looks at you and says "I packed a bag of food for each of you, and some snacks for your mons. I hope you're hungry for breakfast! I thought you should have a big meal before that big tournament!"

"Seems like you lucked out, kid." Starr grins and says "Jennifer also gave us a tank of gas."

You look at Jennifer!

"Thank you, Jennifer!"

"Oh, I just wish we could do more. Maybe I should send Psyotee with you..."

Psyotee looks up and says "Psyotee!" and trots across the floor toward Jane and puts his head in her lap. "Psyotee!"

"Oh, you're right, Psyotee. We couldn't get by without you." Jennifer looks back up at you and says "Please, when you... after Joe... please bring him back to us as soon as you can!"

Volito floats up to the table toward the food! It seems like he's feeling a lot better!

Jane picks up Volito and holds him up in front of her and says "These humans are counting on you to help them."

Volito looks at you and Auroara and says "Vo...lito?"

Suddenly Starr leans in and picks up Volito and says "Hey, we should get going while it's still morning! It's a long drive down to Bronze Valley! Right, guys?"

"Waddabeah!"

[SFX: double shell clap]

"Chompex!"

When you all climb into the car again, Jennifer waves at you from the doorway.

Suddenly, Psyotee runs up and looks at you!

"Thanks!"

What? Psyotee is thanking you for trying to rescue Joe?

"Yes!"

The other car speeds up and drives closer to you!

[SFX: loud metal bang]

"Tamounda!"

"We're being attacked!" Auroara's eyes are starting to glow!

Starr grabs the wheel as tightly as she can and says "They're trying to run us off the road!"

You point at Auroara's eyes!

"Secret!"

Auroara blinks and looks back at the other car and says "What else are we supposed to do?"

"Clambreak!" Starr rolls down her window and says "Get out there!"

[SFX: double shell clap]

Clambreak flies up from the back seat and out the window alongside Starr!

"Clambreak! Attack that..."

[SFX: loud metal bang]

"Aaah!" Starr almost loses control of the car and the wheels make so much dust Clambreak disappears!

Starr glances out her window and says "Clambreak!"

[SFX: double shell clap]

Suddenly Clambreak appears out of the dust and Starr says "Clambreak, try attacking one of the tires with..."

[SFX: loud metal bang]

"Aaah!"

It seems like Starr can't drive and fight at the same time!

You look over the top of Tamounda at Starr!

"I'll drive!"

Starr can't believe it! "Are you sure, kid?"

Auroara looks out the back window and says "It's coming in for another attack!"

[SFX: loud metal bang]

"Aaah!" Everyone gets knocked forward again! Starr looks at you and says "Alright, get ready to switch places with Tamounda and take the wheel! I'll keep my foot on the gas pedal."

Tamounda says "Tamounda!" and squeezes between you and the seat just as the other car knocks you forward again!

[SFX: loud metal bang]

You get knocked upside down next to Starr's feet!

That really hurt!

"Kid! Are you alright?"

You climb back up as quickly as you can and then give Starr a determined look and grab the steering wheel!

Starr nods and lets go of the steering wheel and grabs the bottom of her window and sticks her head out! "Clambreak! Attack that car with Power Snap!"

[SFX: double shell clap]

Clambreak snaps its shell and the dust in front of it gets blown away by the shaking air!

Auroara looks out the back window and says "I can't see them anymore!"

"Clambreak, can you see anything?"

[SFX: double shell clap]

Starr looks over at you with a big grin! "Looks like we took care of them! Nice driving!"

You can't help grinning back at Starr! It seems like you're doing a great job!

"Here, I'll take the..."

[SFX: loud metal bang]

Suddenly the car starts sliding and then tips up onto one side!

Tamounda slides into you and says "Tamounda!"

You turn the steering wheel as hard as you can and it falls back down on all four wheels! You glance at Starr and...

What? Starr's eyes are closed? It seems like she hit her head! The car is starting to slow down because she's not stepping on the gas pedal!

"Chompex!"

"Waddabeah!"

"Ram-ram!"

[SFX: loud metal bang]

The car spins around and around! You can't make it stop spinning, no matter how hard you turn the steering wheel!

You can't see anything because of all the dust!

When the car stops spinning you look down at the pedals and then stomp on the gas pedal! The car moves forward so quickly that you get pushed back into the seat!

Suddenly you drive through the edge of the dust and see a Tulyip in front of you on the edge of a cliff!

What? You just realized you're driving toward the edge of a cliff?

Look out!

The car isn't slowing down! You had better step on the brake pedal!

You look down at the pedals!

...

You don't remember which pedal Starr stepped on to slow the car down! You had better do something quickly!

You look over at Ramster and Tamounda!

Ramster is pointing at one of the pedals! "Ram-ram!" He gets ready to hop down and push it but then the car hits a bump and he gets knocked into the air and lands in the back seat!

You look at Tamounda!

Tamounda says "Tamounda!" and covers his eyes with his tail!

"Huh? Hey, what's going on, kid?" What? Starr is awake? You look over at Starr but her eyes are still closed! It seems like she's not quite awake yet!

Ramster climbs over the top of the seat and says "Ram-ram!"

Auroara leans forward over the top of the seat next to Ramster and shouts "Turn the control wheel!"

You're turning the steering wheel as hard as you can but the car is still going forward! It's not slowing down!

Tulyip finally looks up at the car!


Cutémon is challenging Tulyip!

Cutémon attacks with Diamond's Car!

Tulyip dodges the attack!

Tulyip is fleeing the fight!


Tulyip hops out of the way just as the car goes up over the cliff and out into the open air!

Suddenly the car starts to fall downward toward the ocean!

What? You just remembered that you still don't know how to swim?
