Stronghold Master Quest - I

!!VptZ4kKH/J4 ID:ocLSQZq4 No.5857337 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
The world once flourished with bountiful majesty. Man walked the lands boldly, basking in the inexhaustible qi of heaven and earth; he birthed kingdoms, states, and empires; he tamed nature—its domains and myriad beasts, and strode staunchly towards the profound, manifold mysteries of the Dao. Yet on one fateful day, lost to the muddied waters of history, the world began its rapid decay. Seemingly overnight, the qi of heaven and earth became corrupted, as if whatever aquifer it issued from had been poisoned. The only places spared from the rot were sites of imperishable spirituality: lofty mountains, surging rivers—they serve as Man’s final bastions, upon which strongholds stand verily tall.

* * *

You are Liang Jianxi (梁澗曦), the new master of the Yong Stronghold (鄘山寨), and one of the youngest in its extensive history at the age of 27. But how did you come to take on this mantle?

>You were the disciple of the previous stronghold master, Yuan Guang (元光). After contracting a fatal disease during a prolonged battle with the master of the Wen Stronghold (溫山寨) in the toxic wastes outside, he immediately went to draft up succession plans upon returning and named you his successor.

>Certain circumstances forced your hand and you ended up in a duel with the previous stronghold master. Fortunately, your talents lie in martial arts—you were always hailed as a natural-born cultivator. Coupled with the fact that his body had deteriorated from an illness hitherto unknown to you, you were able to easily slay him. As per agreements made before the battle, you inherited his position as stronghold master.

>Crafty—that is what everyone calls you. You have eyes and ears all around the stronghold and managed to find out about the stronghold master’s disease which he tried so very hard to hide. That was when you hatched your grand plan: as someone with a relatively high position in the Wenping Institute (文平學院), you schemed your way to becoming the Yuan Guang’s private physician and slowly poisoned him to death. After that, it was simply a matter of altering his will so that you were his successor.
