the wall of hard-stuff found long ago, and called a property of the sky-gods (and so avoided), has a crack in it. probably the earthquake months ago, the sky-gods have stopped using their booming sky voices. no one can tell how long since that day because the sky, the sun, and the moon act only in odd omens now. flickering and starting and stopping. even the deliveries of food, and holy technology have been stopped for years, but the tribe and its clans have supplemented this by hunting the world-clearings native wildlife for meat instead.

there hadn't been enough, of course, but with a little rain-dancing, some sacrifices of a deer or two, and the trances of many shamans, the tribe has gotten the support of the God between the trees. their presence has made the life in the world-clearing multiply, plants grow, and wounds and diseases heal in a manner that only the gods could have done it. this had been commented on lightly at first by the sky-gods, but no more. they had focused instead for a while on the tribes deer hunts. then silence.

the tribe and its clans, desperate for answers, now stand outside the crack in the wall. obviously, there is more outside the world-clearing. obviously there is hope.
