>https://docs.google.com/document/d/1K9lcYnZSULKKQoWbbnTvlbbdhtTvEPsRchdaFDb-yWs/edit?usp=sharing So now instead of hammering you with the artistic design sensibilities of a blind stoat, we're trying plainer text. Personally I think it's a fad that won't catch on, but who am I to say but the universal clockwork mechanism?
So peruse the information up and over, and as usual, expect half to be lies and half to be misinterpretation of lies. You should ask questions. It builds character.
But for now, exist. Tell us a little about yourself, maskmate. We have to ask these questions, see.

Perhaps, if you intend to embark on grand adventure, you could do well with a tool or three up your sleeve? Kit and bits and tools and tricks all have Weight - and if you bring more than your Grit-10 (this is commonly 2), you'll find yourself slowed down tremendously by the weight of it all. Once you're past that threshold, then each multiple is -1 to Reaction and Move. That slows you down rather some severely. Armor, as well, decreases Reaction and Move. That's in addition to the sheer weight of it, so if you wear a lot of armor, you'll find that you're penalized first by the weight and then by the constrictions of it. But bright side, it keeps you alive and the world at some distance, so if you don't find yourself needing to move at speed sometimes it can be quite useful to strap something heavy to yourself.

Onwards! Though, perhaps, a point of order - one uses Influence on a specific target. In this case, 3 AP gets you 3 rolls - one for each ally nearby. The World has gone and done that for you. Alternatively, Flashpan's guidance lets you use dispersed initiative planning where 3 AP and an influence roll orders someone else to take an action - quite handy, if you can work together. Someone orders someone else to take an action (or spend about 3 AP). In this case, the critical influence roll grants your allies the critical effect of +2 AP this turn! It would also restore a little guard, if they had lost any, and shake off some terror, if they were frightened, and motivate them, if they were feeling intimidated. Be careful, Sal. Everyone here trains together twelve hours a day, sleeps together in the same bunk barracks bed for eight hours and eats in the same mess hall while peeling spuds in the same kitchen. They know each others faces. Can tell a friend from a foe by the rythm of their gait. Stay low and stay out of sight if you want to pretend to be one of them. At distance, we'll fade into the background. Whatever you do, avoid direct contact with the Greyrats who lord it over their lessers and surely mark their flaws and foibles at each step of their training. They'll see through your disguise in a breath. Rinik's cutters practice paranoia with professional prowess. Yes, actually, quite like the one who runs their cold eyes over you at this very moment and notes the flaws in your stance, the gaps in your guard and the lack of loyalty in your soul. Quirks an eyebrow. Adjusts their rebreather. Thinks dagger-thoughts. You might not have too long before they realize you're not one of them, but maybe you can spin it? The prison-place is busy, scribbles on paper, little workers taking notes. One guard at attention blocks access to a door loaded with heavy locks. The two chemical-expert rats are noting down the results of some recent experiment. Maybe one of them needs a break? Or you're here to take the prisoners for a walk? Uhhhh-- you'll think of something.

But Riv's pulling and turning of various valves and pipes have caused the systems of this manor to go haywire. Intended to defray the claws of fire and block the sights of animists with water and vapour, the various gurgling pipes and outlets of the Grey Manor sing as they rattle into cacophonous activation. Sal watches the hands of her opponent carefully, which is how she ducks below a chair slung at her but even a good parry against the follow-up probe can't keep her quite on her feet as a boot finds her knee and she's sent tumbling back against the doorway she came through. Good footwork keeps her standing. Ah, the Taking Arts. Vulpes don't fight like a brawler or a boxer. She packs up her binoculars and moves to intercede, preparing a surprise. The commotion at the Manor is noise and roaring sounds to all around, which differs little from a training day. Nothing unusual, so no hidden eyes feel much alarm. If we can keep the crack of chemical munitions low, avoid fire and keep the Slicerats in the manor within it so they do not sprint elsewhere and bring back friends, we could avoid the Alarm ever reaching a point where we need worry about prying eyes. Loud noise and unusual events, the blast of alchemy and destruction, as well as things that can be seen from a distance (such as black smoke from burning buildings) would raise the alarm. It seems like the common exchange of blows does not. Because this world operates on 3d6, we shouldn't worry so much until the Alarm state reaches 3, at which point it becomes theoretically possible for it to be triggered. Until then, it simply modifies any larger actions by the Slicerats, though a Patrol close by would be drawn in by the noise. -- Sal spend a Foresight The Veteran Assocation generates 2, as they peruse plans and ponder possibilities. Brittlebird, it looks like your charm collection possibly worked. Or it's that slightly seeping mask you wear for a True Face? Whichever the methodology, you've accrued 2 Boons. Boons are slight specks of attention from distant things. Sometimes they're called Icons, sometimes they're called Gods, and perhaps the difference is academic. These little specks of fleeting resonance with grand things don't allow for particularly grand invocations or the breaking of material constraints, but you can use them to channel brief little spots of wrack. That is: changing of the world. Spend a Boon with a skill roll, so 1 AP, except that you roll against Focus. If you succeed, you generate about 1d6 effect per Boon you spend (so you can spend more than one). It helps to know the portfolio of the thing you're attempting to compel, but Icons aren't shy and you can get a lot of leeway by simply having the right Intentions and begging loudly enough. The specific manifestations of your half-begged divine intervention won't rival a proper Theurge, but because your Mask help align your words and deeds with the Icons above, it does resonate and let them channel through you readily. If you invoke a specific Icon, you get +1. If you invoke a specific Icon and a specific Mantle it has, you get +2. If you invoke a specific icon, a specific Mantle and a specific Resonance, you get +3. And so on - the more specific your knowledge is, the easier it is to channel something. The catch is that by narrowing your focus in this way, you also narrow the outcome. It doesn't seem as if we know a lot, but we can always refer to Close Icons, of which any soul in this city should know 3: The Empyreal commands Fire and Courage, along with Souls, Truth and the Light. Hygea, also called the Painspinner, commands biology, in all its various forms Ashoniti is called the Mountain Breaking Wind - the caress that snaps. She commands Force, in all its forms. So you can beg a boon of Ashoniti and it might shift an object around you by 1d6. Or you can spark a brief fire, or attempt to kick up a sandstorm or knit the bleeding wounds of a dying friend. It's small stuff, but it nudges the world to be in your favour. Be aware that Riv has activated the Firebreak system, which spread water-vapour and steam in the area. This makes it harder for things to catch fire, sure, but it's also an defensive against Animism of all its kinds: No convocant can compel or conjure against that which they cannot sense. So in laymans terms, you cannot beg a boon to target anything you cannot yourself sense in some way. The Icon would not know how to guide itself to the target.

Lady Gradegras slams the door shut and shifts the heavy barring timber into place. Now it's just us, the steaming contraptions and all the Slicerats that the Grey Manor can muster. At least until the reinforcements arrive at the doorway. Lagomorpheus and Dusk deploy munitions that cover the approach to the main house in smoke, dreamer's dust and swirling clouds. The archers cough and stumble, but the Jaded Survivor wears a rebreather - proof against such chemical munitions. But if the lungs are safe, the eye are not. > 3AP: With a short run-up and leap, Riv scrambles up the armory's exterior, scaling the wall @ [1]. (Move15) > 3AP: Rolling to his feet, Riv dashes [6]x3, steps off the roof, twists his body to grab the roof's ledge as he begins to plummet then pivots the momentum of his descent to swing himself down through the open door and into the armory, stopping just past the threshold with a skid. (Move15) > 3AGI: Amidst the gloom of the storehouse something catches Riv's interest. Squeezing past Mock, the mask moves [2]x1, [1]x2, approaching a mass of fluid conduits, several robust apparatus presumably for pumping and storage, and excitingly intricate series of mechanical interfaces. > 1AGI: One particular section of piping is fitted with some manner of handle. Experimentally Riv twists, turns, and slides the configuration, watching the pipe shift along with the motions, revealing the suggestion of a second pipe nested within. Eventually, after a good deal of thunks and metallic groaning - the Mask is rewarded as one final sliding motion exposes an aperture into a steaming section of pipe isolated from the rest of the system - perhaps some manner of port for introducing materials into the system, cleansing agents and the like. Riv feeds the pouch of half-burnt mothdream into the tubes expectant maw, then cycles the mechanism back to its original orientation. (-1 Pouch of Charred Mothdream) > 3FOC: Resting the hand enveloped in the Free College R.I.C.E upon the bulk of the machine before him, the masked man pauses thoughtfully. He could perhaps do something clever here, however it feels somewhat unfair that only he gets to have fun with Rinik's toys. Riv dumps all of the force stored within the R.I.C.E into the systems connected to this station and refrains from providing any real direction or or intent, allowing Ashoniti to make of it what she will. A cloth in front of her spyglass, moved every now and again, and the sun. The glints deliver a missive, if one knows how to read them: A patrol of Slice-rats is currently moving between their checkpoints. A few of them are breaking off to move towards the Grey Manor. They look like four trainees led by a Slugrat. Flashpan wants to know if she should let them pass, or attempt to intercept. She can also intercept the patrol itself. They are not nervous or on a war-footing, and it is likely that there has not been any alarm yet. -- The Association does *not* generate any foresight this turn. Perhaps particular that of living organisms encountering new ways to develop a headache. The Jaded Survivor is having a flashback and seeing Vanadian Knights were none are likely to exist, but this is lending her a ruthless sort of sensibility. Staring, almost spellbound, at our successful gambit, I ever so briefly regret I didn’t lift a trophy too.
The sound of Gradegras breaching breaks that reverie.
I almost died today. For some reason… in the here and now, it’s not as frightful as it seemed.

“Thanks Friends. THE FORCE OF THE BLAST HAS DISABLED MY HUD, BUT YOUR STALWART ACTION PREVENTED ANY SERIOUS DAMAGE. Well, things look safe enough now. Time to call in the children to practice their looting. Let me know if you need any help”. Lago lit the cigarette off her burning 'cloak' before extinguishing the cloak and hucking a red and white striped smoke grenade over the wall. Voice had said that they mixed a bit of mothdream into the smoke mix for coloration while Lago was sleeping, but it was hard to tell sleepwalking truth from sleepdreaming fiction.
Lago then ran into the prison, arming herself along the way. She didn't know how to use a bow, but every Vulpes did better using tools they stole themselves. It must be a confidence thing. “Hey your rats, are things going the way they should for you? I've got some kids coming by to clean up the mess outside. Help them out, and I'll adopt you in to the Rabbit Family, or you can bottle off into the city. We have better healthcare than the Rats. Better think quick.“ Lago made way so the rats could run south.

Volatile chemicals break their confines, internal barriers shattering as the mixing begins, the little bag fair hummming in Fourth Dusk' hands. It describes a beautiful arc, forward. The Slicerats in the Manor are too shaken by the sudden breaking of the door to react well. One raises a bow, one tries a side-step, one throws an arm up in front of their eyes and none of that is proof against the shockwave that rebounds off of the walls. It's too bright to see what is happening in there. Still, even Rinik's hardiest fighters can hardly shake off a full squadbreaker's worth of munitions. Wait, the formation, hazy shadows against clenched eyes and bright lights, its shifted. One of those Slicerats threw herself into a roll behind one of the others . . .
