The two reasons that prices are high on 3rd party marketplaces are A) absurdly high fees and B) refund policies that cater to fraudulent buyers. Both drive good sellers away as well, leaving fewer worse options for buyers.
Selling at in-person events sidesteps both problems. I'll pick up figures when they go on sale and mark them up a little over retail, like $30-$35 for a Marvel or DC figure. The reason I do that is, frankly, to keep out the riff-raff. I don't want to deal with somebody that's going to take up space trying to haggle me back down to clearance price. Experience has borne out that the cheapest customers cause the most problems.
But rest easy knowing that I basically feed my own habit with the profits instead of lying on a yacht lighting cigars with $100 bills.
