>>10475199>Traditional paintjobs are only better when you're paying a hefty fee for a headsculpt aloneHasbro/DCD/etc are already paying whatever fees the best sculptors in the industry charge.
Or are you saying the "hefty fee" to paint the face?
Because even McFarlane was still doing airbrushed shading on their toys even when they acquired the DC license. Of course, the DC figures got the budget paints, because the DC license is way more expensive.
Still, McFarlane was combining tampographs, low res prints, spray masks, and even airbrushing a decade after China started implementing the new paint applications way back in 2008-2011 (hard to say when, as they seemed to have slowly phased it out). So lines like Destiny, Call of Duty, Fortnite, Assassins Creed, etc etc all had super nice paint jobs still. Sure, it wasn't golden era 00s McFarlane, but still premium looking for less $25.
It's only recently where companies have cut budgets even harder that it's rarer to see, but again, we're paying more than ever for less. And the fact that lines over $50 are seeing the same budget cuts, despite never justifying their higher prices, while also increasing their prices is pretty ridiculous.
>will always be more consistentWhy are you defending a multi-million dollar companies anyway? Who fucking cares about "consistent" when we used to get high tier paint jobs that made the toys look amazing. Toy lines also used to be "consistent" before they cut their budgets and i would not mind paying a $2-5 dollars more to have paint jobs look like pic again.
Understandably, shit like DCMV, Marvel Legends, Halo, and Fortnite toys being sold in Walmarts and Targets are made to be sold as budget toylines for kids, so prices are kept down, but collector lines have had no problem increasing their prices every year, if not every quarter.
