With full scale tanks being about the largest you can get with ground vehicles (counting cannon), everything else is going to 3 feet in length and longer. Thats longer than your average bookcase. The TIE Fighter in 1/12 is smaller, but only because it's taller than it is wide and depth is also fuck huge.
It's a huge fucking struggle to have something that big on display and basically needs to be its own furniture. Hence, a coffee table. If you own a house, it's already fully furnished. So where do you have room to place that, along with the rest of your collection? It's the size of a child and needs its own bedroom. Put it anywhere else and it's a clusterfuck.
Also, speaking of being able to notice facial features, one of the girls who used to sit with me looked uncannily like a guy i knew in HS. Even creepier, she was also from mexico and had blonde hair and blue eyes just like him. No relation. So because she looked so much like him, i never let it be more than just friendly talk over lunch and she eventually left after realizing she couldn't go further.
