So I got this recently released Dspiae reciprocal sander (cost me $35 shipped) and tried it out.
I can't say I'm impressed.
From past experience Dspiae tools are well-built and have a nice solid feel to them (being made of metal helps with that). This one feels really cheap and plasticky by comparison (which makes sense since it's all plastic).
Sanding heads are easy to swap, the self-adhesive sandpaper bits attach to them securely, there are even labels for grits that you can stick to the heads so you know which sandpaper is used. But that's where nice things end. The sander makes quite a bit of noise which to me personally is annoying, and it's not particularly quick or powerful when it comes to actual sanding. I used a 400 grit bit to sand an edge of some scrap plastic and I am quite sure I would have sanded it much quicker (and quieter) by hand with a 400 grit sanding stick. And it's not like you can get into tight spaces with it either: the head oscillates about 1mm each way but does so at relatively low frequency (thus the annoying noise and slow progress even at highest speed).
I don't think I will have a lot of applications for this thing in my work to be honest, but if you have a lot of patience I guess you can use it to sand off nubs on some nice flat pieces (the sandpaper is hard-backed so you can't really sand curved surfaces with it).
4/10, worth maybe $10 if you can find it on sale.
