Regardless, you could pretty easily add back in the friction and use the normal legs, I think. With a piece of paper, or something.
The legs do have a great amount of range, nearly as much as the static ones, but they could never get an equal amount of range to static preposed molded together legs. The range on the poseable ones could probably be a smidge better if they really went for it, but as it is, it's pretty good. See picrel.
