The lesson they got from TLK wasn't "The bayverse is convoluted shit and needs to die right now and be replaced with a completely revamped series," it was that they need to lower the budget beneath what they can expect the movie to bring in. They paid a big room of huge hollywood writers to make a bunch of scripts and production books, which were unquestionably expensive, so they have to make something of them. Also there are writers, actors, directors, producers, caterers, and all manner of other people have signed on who would have to be repayed for lost time and work. It would most likely be cheaper to just make an equally fucking shitty movie on a third of the budget and hope the brand will carry it to a modest profit than to solve anything.
