For all the complaints about how modern lego sets, can we all agree that the true tragedy is with modern technic? Back in the 80s and 90s, technic sets used to have an open-design to show kids and teens how the moving mechanism worked. The relative simplicity of the build also encouraged kids to make their own moving mechanisms. Pic related was one of my absolute favorite sets as a kid that introduced me to basic mechanic principles.
Now, the designers try to slap as much plastic as possible to not only cover up the mechanism, but inflate the prices. The end-result of this philosophy are those $200-400 cars that look more like plastic model cars. I seriously don't understand modern technic-fans? Why not just buy even more realistic looking plastic models of whatever vehicle you want?
