So even if i could overlook their re-re-re-re-re-re-reuse of their Superman body with 1999 quality articulation, i still couldn't bring my self to buy a figure due to their size.
I've been buying way more DC stuff than ever though, thanks to McFarlane producing a better product than Hasbro and some figures just too good looking to pass up.

"Essential" is synonymous with basic thanks to companies producing no-brand products with that name. And they're not wrong to use the word in that way, since it implies a product is so important it can do without any extraneous featuers, because it's needed. Water, beans, rice, electricity, sun, salt and shelter are all essential things you need in your life. Basic needs are essential.
As a product to deliver DC toys, the essentials means they only have to provide the most popular DC characters and give them articulation. It was a generic as fuck toyline and it lived up to its name.
The line was never billed as a premium toyline, like Icons was, but they at least gave better than normal articulation. So if you were used to toylines like Marvel Legends, they gave you your money's worth.
