>>10710440I think the bigger problem with minfig faces is not as much the glare as it is how they are given a wrong kind of realism. This is mostly through wrinkles or constrains in the facial expressions.
Notice how row many smiling faces like row 3 collumn 1 or the one to the botton right follow "realistic" proportions (the edges of the mputh don't extend beyond the eyes). As a result you have a kind of small deformed mouth rather than a cartoonish one. The blue sweatband girl and the smirking guy above her manage to go beyond those constraints and look more relaxed, less forced.
face prints from around 2008, especially the Jester from castle, don't have this problem as they are more unhinged. And classic faces neither cause of simpler expressions.
