Why do people keep making this claim?
There's nothing to substantiate it, because we already know video games sales have only increased in the 00s because of the demographics have shifted and toy sales have only increased since.

And your point is pretty shit too, because there used to be a major video game released for every movie release.
There's been a complete dearth of Star Wars video games ever since Disney bought LucasFilm. There used to be multiple video games almost every single year, not just about the movies, but dozens of spin offs and side stories, on every single platform. Dozens and dozens of Star Wars video games every year, especially during the prequels releases.

You can count all the video games released about Star Wars after Disney bought them on one hand, including the shitty freeware apps.

You know what one of the most popular games was back then?
The part most people thought dragged on too long and they could do without. One of the best games of that generation too, as written by many adult reviewers and spoken about fondly by other gamers my age, younger, and older.

The prequels were hyped even after negative experiences and impressions, because even if the story and dialogue was bad, everything else excited people.

See also that Clone troopers Commando game i'm forgetting the name of that was nothing but hype for the PC and Xbox.
