The Maori didn't even get butthurt over the Bionicle thing either, they just asked Lego to use Maori words that didn't have religious significance. Plus nobody had a problem with the Aztec theming in Bionicle G2, or the islander-themed wave of Ninjago a short while ago.

Personally I'd love an Aztec/Mayan theme, or even some sort of "cultures of the world" theme with sets based on, well, cultures of the world. Kind of like what they were doing with the Houses of the World, except instead of a tiny GWP with a ridiculously high price threshold, actual sets you can buy in stores.
