>>8648678>loose Technic swivel jointsYou mean a universal joint? They're very useful for transferring rotations around angles and can be used for all kinds of purposes. They're used in real cars too to connect the crankshaft to the rear wheels.
Something to keep in mind about U joints is that they don't transmit a constant rotational velocity around an angle, which is a problem if you have them connected directly to wheels because it means your wheels can't spin at a constant speed. Pic related is a CV joint which does. It used to be that you had to make your own CV joints with a rather complicated assembly, but it's a lot easier now that they have these things.
