When Hasui was head of the MPs, he was more focused on drawing from all aspects of a character to create a good-looking G1 style toy. As time has gone on, they've just decided to go full-pandering, and since 90% of MP collectors are over-30 manchildren who just want a figure that looks as much as possible as their dumpy 80s toy commercial, instead of something that is actually, you know, good.
I hate the loss of silver paint on these things. All of their faces used to be silver, but now they've switched to flat gray to better emulate the cartoon, I suppose. I always assumed that the grays in the cartoon were meant to be silver, anyway. They just didn't always highlight it properly because it was cheap and lazy animation.
