>>9509066When the western TF fandom started growing out of tumblr instead of seibertron/tfw/etc, they didn't have any art really to consume other than the ongoing comics. Roche and Milne and Guido and the others all base their styles off of a ton of japanese and american artists, and have a strong basis of shape and anatomy. Instead of trying to ape these artists, because that is insanely hard without a disgusting amount of work, they simply aped western yaoi artists because their soft styles are easy and don't require any greater understanding of the basics of art.
Then tumblr style degenerated for years into whatever this is by the end of IDW 1, and for some reason despite their art being this bad and lacking such basic building blocks, they then started hiring these artists.
Also for the record I think early G1 Marvel human faces slapped onto robots also looks awful, just that those guys actually had the proper building blocks but were simply trying to apply skills based in drawing realistic humans to drawing robots.
