I really hope the rumors about Tarantulas being based on that Wreckers design are true. I know that'll upset the purists but I think it's a really striking look.

I believe it'd be fine and cool if it wasn't for all the other characters that we've got so far have been so slavishly accurate to the cartoon (save Rhinox) that having Tarantulas looking like his Sins version is gonna be weird.
My only hope is that it's considerably less shitty than Rhinox and Scorponok at this point. Or god forbid they find a way to make his entire midsection made out of clear plastic.

Scorponok's problems are much more severe than him just having the dumb realistic beast mode, sadly. And Terrorsaur is just lazy as hell. Fucking sucks becaue I love the both of them so much and all we really got was two really good headsculpts. Least with Terrorsaur I can forgive it since his transformation is functionally impossible to be show accurate in both modes.

what he meant was rhinox is the only one specifically aiming at a different piece of media. the others vary in several ways from the show in deliberate ways, homaging both it and the toyline while also folding in more realism, but only rhinox was based on a totally different version from fonegame. Look dude, I don't like hyper sunbow accuracy either, and 5 years of only G1 is quite exhausting. And I wish Beast Wars could get some more special treatment for the 25th anniversary. I love G1, JG1, EG1, G2, BW, JBW, UT, and Animated. Fuck, 89-99 is my favorite era of Transformers. I fucking love Beast Wars. I mean, they don't seem to want to do Transmetals, but that's Tarantulas' more iconic look, so the Wreckers design seems like the best compromise here - it's clearly based off of his Transmetal look without actually being Transmetal. It's the best we can hope for, because the only alternative is the dumpy Season 1 design, which I could do without.

neato. I love the Halloween/Nemesis Prime deco on road ranger. I think I prefer the deeper blues on Pipe but Puffer definitely has the nicer headsculpt with that red visor, such a rare look for an Autobot. Despite there being nothing really special about the Huffer mold I really like it

When the western TF fandom started growing out of tumblr instead of seibertron/tfw/etc, they didn't have any art really to consume other than the ongoing comics. Roche and Milne and Guido and the others all base their styles off of a ton of japanese and american artists, and have a strong basis of shape and anatomy. Instead of trying to ape these artists, because that is insanely hard without a disgusting amount of work, they simply aped western yaoi artists because their soft styles are easy and don't require any greater understanding of the basics of art.
Then tumblr style degenerated for years into whatever this is by the end of IDW 1, and for some reason despite their art being this bad and lacking such basic building blocks, they then started hiring these artists.

Also for the record I think early G1 Marvel human faces slapped onto robots also looks awful, just that those guys actually had the proper building blocks but were simply trying to apply skills based in drawing realistic humans to drawing robots.

Yes that is the fucking problem, anon. The reason the early IDW artists art looks good is because they aped japanese artists and euro/american artists who were doing robots. The tumblr fandom just aped eachother and then tries to slap geometric shapes and panel lines onto humans. That's why you get people adding the fucking nose blush to robots.

Said it in other threads but I genuinely believe it's impossible to fuck up Inferno. The ant head folds down and that's basically the whole transformation. Only way I can see them shitting the bed is giving it a "realistic" alt mode, where it has tiny beady eyes instead of the big compound ones, because those are more or less required to break up his insanely red chest. Two tiny eyes are gonna look like nipples. That or them chintzing out on the limbs and binding multiples together like they did with Scorponok.
