There was no written contract or anything, And honestly Gaiman being able to then take that design and sell it strikes me as way more egregious than anything considering ultimately there's more of Todd's DNA in Marvel Angela than Gaiman by virtue of everthing related to her character history being stripped. She is pure (McFarlane) visuals
Ironically the 1000k upfront is probably more than he would've gotten if he was getting a more typical comic script rate with royalties since as Capullo says Image/McFarlane royalties are random. And definitely way more than if he created the character for Marvel upfront. Which is till fucked up and Todd is way too old to still be doing things randomly like that, but still, I don't cry for Neil.
