His G1 persona was basically just the most stereotypical "GRRRR, BIG MEAN BAD GUY" cliche ever, and I also never cared for Frank Welker's voice for him, it was all flash and no substance, if he had any actual characterization beyond "KILL AUTOBOTS, GET ENERGON", it would have made him hard to take seriously.
But then pic related came along with his cool, calculating ambition and always being 10 steps ahead like a fucking Sherlock Holmes villain. Plus, Corey Burton's voice was based and fit him perfectly. I'd like to have a toy of him, but I'm really just not a fan of Animated's stylization at all.
