Back in the day the toyline used to just consist of the standard classes legends > scout > deluxe > voyager > leader so the toys had to appeal to all ages aside from MP and tended to have more gimmicks and lights and sound but at some point I think around RID15 they started to make simpler separate lines for younger children with stripped down transformations and more focus on gimmicks and play factor. Now the normal size classes are purely just transforming action figures with a more mature collector focus whilst the shit like cyberverse have the lights and sounds and flip out energon armor and automorph gimmicks ect. Tho I think projectiles are kill even in the kiddie lines due to the reasons >>9714039 pointed out

This unfortunately. Walmart shelve stock is different, hence why Netflix Soundwave was almost never found in-store on the west coast but had at least 3 periodic restocks online.

Transformers Generations Thrilling 30s Tankor

I'm sure Frilling 40s wil have Vehicon representation too.

Tankor is a cybertronian slab with a big gun mounted to it.
A much narrower profile than a lot of tankformers, but that may be because Tankor isn't an H tank.

Doesn't roll very well. The castors underneath just don't grab anything. I don't think it's a matter of weight, He feels light in hand but according to the scale Tankor's regular deluxe weight. Maybe even a bit on the heavy side.

Other than that his cannon can point up but not side to side, and his head can look side to side but not up.

Robot mode wasn't that bad on that one but they just fucking gave up on making the tank mode look like anything. The old basic Tank Drone at least gave a half-decent shot at both modes.

I'm a fan of how much of Tankor's body shape comes through organically. The flat sloped angles of the tank making these huge pecs. And the extra wide shoulders making Tankor as broad as he is tall.

Unfortunately that does me he doesn't have the mass allocated for the height some people would want from their Tankor toy.
That's pretty much the only grip aimed at this toy. Other than being little he's great. A great little Tankor.

No, there is one other thing. The missile in his cannon is a push missile. That's a bit lame. And the material it's made out of is just a bit to bendy for my taste. Every time I try to jam back in I feel like it might snap first.

Now if pic related was remolded into what you posted and released in Leader class I'd be happy. Tankor needs to look around and swing his canon in that direction like a heat seeking rage machine. Also a moving jaw couldn't hurt.

Tankor doesn't have an extraordinary amount of articulation but what he does have he rocks it.

Some very tight universal hips, thigh swivels, 90 knee bends and a bit of back and forth at the foot if that's what you're into.

Head still swivels, but not the waist.
Shoulders rotate no problem but only go out about 45 degrees.
The best part is this whole elbow area. Bicep swivel, double jointed elbow for full 180 degree of movement, and a wrist swivel.
I't all perfectly aligned for Tankor to be able to reach across his own big chest smoothly.

Jazz was indeed not designed the same way as the rest, being started by warden then handed off to the studio series 86 guy.
The rest of the autobots were all collabs between takara designers and the ss86 guy.
Considering jazz is the first one, either he was a leftover from kingdom or (more likely) was the pitch concept.

Looking at blitzwing, he's really just a complicated voyager.
Same with hotrod being a complicated deluxe.
I'm wondering if we're headed towards an elimination of the voyager class entirely.
Pack blaster without eject and you could see him as a 26 dollar deluxe.
Compare him to ss86 scourge and it's night and day.
Maybe they just plan to add accessories to voyagers and sell at the leader price, or dumb down some engineering and sell at the deluxe.
Maybe we'll start getting 2 commanders a year after all

Yeah. I can see. Got to admit, base 86 Kup's colours were a little bit too light for me.

BB86 Kup has that more subtle gunmetal colour along with the weathering and cracks stamped into the plastic.

I know this is ridiculous, but I prefer the regular SS86 release because nobody else in my movie display had painted over windows. I have all the main movie cast, including the ones that were released in the various WFC trilogy lines, and it's clear windows across the board (except Scourge/Sweep because he doesn't have windows). Just felt like that while that other Kup is more screen accurate, he would stick out like a sore thumb since that painted window chest is so prominent in both modes.

I can understand that need for consistency.

I'm not particularly bound by that since my collection is a mishmash of exclusives and different lines. I'd like to get all the G1 cast present on the Ark with a consistent scale at somepoint. But finding guys like Ironhide, Ratchet and Prowl is proving to be a real pain.

Also why I suggested Hoist in an earlier post since he's been easier to find than the others.

It has to be environmental. I have many, many Transformers that people here are constantly complaining about yellowing on that still look as new today as they did when I got them - hell, even my 20+ year old Transmetals have managed to avoid flaking or chipping. Either people are leaving their shit where it can be exposed to too much light and moisture, or I've been consistently winning the QC lottery all these years.

It's not. It might have to do with what batches they were made in however.
I have a collection ranging from beastwars to modern figures and the only victims of yellowing I have are theses newer figures that everyone's complaining about and a minicon I left out on a windowsill. Hell I saw a that cyberverse shark guy and an arcee in target the other day and they had it in box.

I only care for missiles that look believable, which is pretty hard to pull off because something has to click into the spring part, and that means a big obvious indentation part that hooks onto the springloaded latch
the best transformers missile launcher was on G2 megatron. the missiles were just really long pills, and the magazine-fed launcher just pyoonged them out with a spring-loaded pusher. brilliant. on the other hand, a tank doesn't shoot.. missiles...
b'boom's missiles were particularly unsatisfying since they came out of this weird thin bamboo tube gun that he held awkwardly in his big flat hands.

Transformers Generations Warpath

The big chase figure of December 2011.
A pretty different flavor of tank from Tankor the other day. I've got Kingdom Warpath handy too for comparisons.

Off the bat I can tell you I like the body of Kingdom more than Generations, but Generations has the superior turret shape and barrel length.
I prefer Kingdom's cherry red over Generation's tomato colour. Generation's silver treads totally beat Kingdom's milky offering.

Generations Warpathhas about a core class's mass over Kingdom. And, here's some forbidden knowledge, the little blast effect nub on the end of Kingdom's barrels fit's perfectly inside Generation for some ZOWEE hot docking action.

Far as transformations go, Kingdom's is still a pain in the butt to get the shins all folded up right and Generations is still lickety-split.
All stood up you're left with a cute and dorky minibot and a robot that looks like it turns into a tank.

It's a real virgin and chad scenario. With the exception of the panel behind his head I prefer Generation's design 100%. Even then the raised shoulder block and weaponry put in an effort to blend it in.

At some point when I transformed him Generation's tomato red changed to a burgundy that looks great with his two-tone grey.
He's just got so much more going on with detail and paint than Kingdom's solid red with a milky midriff.

For how much cooler Generations looks of course it cannot keep up with Kingdom's articulation.
Ankles, wrists, and a waist are all things that Generations Warpath lacks. All needed for hitting sick dabs.

He still does have totally unimpeded two-way shoulders, biceps, and 90 degree elbows.
As well as neck rotation, ball hips, thigh swivels, and knees.
Not useless but far from the modern standard.

Basically to sum up; if you see these two for similar price go for Generations.

I understand that every triple changer has to have one form that just gets chucked under the bus, but here Hasbro just sort of threw all three under on purpose. The best looking form is probably the robot mode, and even then we have weird things like the head design going on.

Eh, I dunno, the form we got looks really nice and chunky in robot mode. Tank mode isn't anything special, but it was never really going to be was it? The only real problem is that incorrectly sized two-plug adapter you use to mount the cannon onto the double-arm turret that's supposed to hold the whole thing together.
Why the fuck those arms don't have their own tabs is a mystery to me.
I'd love to see a retool that gives the arms tabs, and then gives us a second cannon so we can have a weird double cannon tank thing.

so Studio Series 86 Perceptor is disappointing. His hips are way too wide for his upper body, his struts are too far apart in microscop mode, there's a huge gaping hole in his back in robot mode and his shoulder cannon won't straighten out in that mode either.

Almost makes me wish I'd gotten the TR figure.

Hey all - it's been a while. Thread confusion has prevented me from posting reviews for most of my new arrivals (namely DOTM Spacecase, Origin Bumblebee, Mutant Tigatron, Cyberverse Skullcrunch and SS86 Slug/Slag), but I'm just goign to jump in here and and assume this is the right place for now. Anyway, Core Iguanus just showed up! He's the only Legacy figure this wave I was excited for (and other than Tarantulas, the only other character I care about for Legacy in general). I never owned the original Pretender (or ANY pretenders), so I have no prior experience with the character (beyond my brother's Beast Wars Iguanus, who I'm assuming was the same character). I think I like this version more than what I've seen of the original toy, though - dumping the bland robot mode in favor of making the shell his main form and still giving him the motorcycle transformation makes him much more interesting.

I only own two otehr Core characters (Rattrap and Vertebreak), so once again I'm amazed at just how smol he is. His size doesn't hinder him in any way, though - he has much more articualtion and balance than Slash here, with balljoint ankles, waist rotation, and balljoint knees that let him swivel them as well as bend them. He comes with a 'gun' - the hilt of that combined sword mode you're supposed to make with Skywarps' and Hotrod's weapons - and it's got a 5mm hole that makes it blast-effect compatible; that being said, I can see Iguanus as being more of a melee fighter than a ranged one, preferring to use his lizard-monster claws to slash at enemies. His 'gun' thing can be stowed on his back using the same peg hole it slots into when he's in bike mode.

Speaking of which, bike mode is stupidly simple, but effective. The hardest part of it is getting the two 'spikes' on the back of his robot head to slot into the grooves of the armature that brings his windshield down over his face; otherwise, he's a very simplified Wreck-gar. he has no kickstand but balances nicely, and his wheels let him roll along with no issues.

He's a bit too small for most normal-sized characters to ride, but he's perfect for other Core characters. Unfortunately, he completely lacks handlebars, meaning your riders have to just grab what they can and hold on for dear life; it seems a bit fitting in-universe that characters would have no control over being able to actually steer this beastly character and would be at his complete mercy - just cross your fingers and pray to Primus that he's going to take you where you want to go. Overall, he's pretty great, and a very fun bite-sized addition to the line with tons of character and flexibility.

That's fair, but you have to admit that the toy deco has absolutely abysmal color distribution. Black highlighting all the wrong parts (crotch and elbows) and red arm blades blending with wings are particularly egregious. And that's just the bot mode.

As far as I know, the only other announced, modernized Pretender we're getting is Skullgrin. I doubt that, if they did go ahead and do some of the Autobot ones, they'd go for a 'pure' humanoid look. Maybe they could make the human modes look more robotic? Like, most of them were wearing armor, so change any exposed skin to silver and otherwise keep the overall shape the same? I don't think they'll bother, though - the actual Pretender gimmick has been discarded, so the only reason they're making the Decepticon Pretenders have their shells as their robot modes is BECAUSE they're cool monsters and not generic robots.
