I actually even have the futuron monorail (though slightly incomplete). It's neat for what it is, but the Unitron version has so much more personality.

Because they can be anything.I see where you're coming from, and appreciate the level of imagination involved, but I honestly prefer the specialized designs of the 90s over even the beloved classic space boys of the 80s. I know that's heresy in some circles, and they do still hold a special place in my lego heart, but those Space Police 2 figs, that one spyrius android (Major Kartofski), the Unitron Chief, Commander Cold! They're just so much more interesting and soulful to me.
Really, I think it's all just going to come down to nostalgia, and which side of the gen x/gen y divide your on.
