The problem is that their focus shifted too much away from small 3-5$ sets to medium sized 20-50$ ones and large premium sets with piece and price numbers that were unheard of before.
This was the largest set in 1994 with over 1300 pieces and a price of 130$ which isn't even the upper class these days.
