So, I saw the Monkey Kid sets in a poster. Apparently this theme is more Big Trouble in little China meets Bladerunner with Journey to the West than DragonBall. The sets are colorful and cyberpunk ish, lots of animal like creatures and demons are mechanic cyborgs. Monkey Kid can transform into the Monkey King through a mech. Chima and cyberpunk fans will be happy. Also, it looks like it might have a post apocalyptic feel too.

I played lego worlds during beta, legitimately part of what made me lose interest was minifig customisation was so limited. All I wanted was to be able to recreate something that remotely resembled my lego universe minifig but they insisted on providing barely any male hairpieces. Too many novelty CMF minifigs and not enough choices for if you wanted to look normal

YES. It looks better. The brown in brown of the original looked like a treehouse on the ground. BSB colors for the ship look more interesting. And it's also a COMPLETE MOFUCKING SHIP.

I think the original model looks better, but I also think that the way they integrated a fully functional ship into it was a brilliant compromise.

Now, if I can afford both this and the rumored Creator ship, it will be a very welcome addition to my collection from 2015.

The ideas version was only nice because it was a 3D render. It wouldn't look any different from a brown turd it it was made with real lego. You wouldn't be able to see any of the detail with that single dark brown color.

A couple of threads ago there was a discussion on paying for MOC instructions, mainly on Rebrickable.
Personally, I don't fully disagree with the practice, especially for larger MOCs, but it seems like every single MOC uploaded these days comes with a price. Even smaller alternate builds based on speed champions sets.

One of you mentioned pirating instructions, is there a possible source/mirror for these instructions, where they are uploaded by other users?
I'm particularly interested in MOC-38160, which is build with parts of 10242. It's a fairly recent creation though

I was moaning about this decision since the announcement.
Giving the option for a real ship vastly improves the set. I don't understand how there are no promo shots of the ship in all its glory next to the island outfitted with the extra foliage, I have to look up Youtube reviews for that. The island looks so much more interesting with the small port builds, where you can better see the UFO quarter shores and the ship is the best design in Legos entire history.

I would have liked a more realistic ship like the Imperial Flagship, something based on the HMS Victory or similar, but if nostalgiafaggotry is the only way to get a complete ship with hull, masts, sails and rigging at all then so be it. I might buy two to convert one in a different ship, which funnily enough is this threads go-to argument to excuse terrible design in other Creator sets. I don't even assume the Creator pirate ship will be useful for anything.

Pirating means somebody else has bought the instructions and put them online for free. Doing that in a network style operation seems impossible with what tiny a niche Rebrickable instructions are without something stupid erupting like a flame war or DRM provided by Rebrickable.

I would recommend becoming friends with people that regularly buy these instructions and asking them if they can just e-mail you a file they happen to own or that you could share the costs of the files and thus save money.
Otherwise, learn reverse-engineering. The thing in your pic is small enough that it wouldn't be that hard. Hell, I want to say you can certainly do something four times better looking in Stud.io if you just try and don't limit yourself to just Mini Cooper parts.
As you said, it makes sense for 3000 piece UCS statues (depending on the complexity). And even then I would disregard half the available instructions because very rarely do people take into account stability or pay attention to which parts are produced in which colors.
I have to wonder if there even is a single physical Lucrehulk MOC out there, that's the only thing I would pour my money into.

Do you guys think I should switch out the big dark brown hull pieces for reddish brown, when the Barracuda Bay causes the reddish brown hulls to become more accessible?
I am also unsure if I want to keep this color scheme, do you have any ideas what other colors I could combine with those red sails?

Been on a Lego kick and got this thing. I've only played a bit of the game but there's something that this just hits about the Big Lego Spaceship nerve hardwired into my brain. A lot of it is probably the massive storage space and splitting apart gimmick, which is in my opinion one of the best Lego spaceship features ever.

The ability to be displayed perfectly upright is also godsent for my current shelf limitations

LEGO wanted to take the idea and put own Black Seas Barracuda to explain Pirates' absence over these 30 years. The ship has been turned into a port. Thats why Red Beard got a new ship in 1993 - Skulls Eye Schooner.

11/10 brother. That bot looks solidly built in both modes which is always quite a challenge. Making transformers from legos is a particular favorite of mine. Here is a beach comber I made last year. His transformation is virtually identical to the toy so his head and spine are on a sliding track.

Thanks! That's a nice Beachcomber too, especially that phone-for-visor and chest detail. I've been trying to make solid transformer for months until I just started making a dark bley torso that folds in on itself as best as possible and started putting some details on. so I've been trying to figure out the best possible way to get steering AND suspension on the smallest form factor possible for a minifig scale vehicle.

Pic related is the best I've got so far using a combo of techniques from other builders and LEGO company itself

I have no access to my bricks now but this is my attempt. I'm not 100% sure if this will be able to turn, I think it should. It's knda high so I suggest turning it into a monster truck or something.

If you don't need two axis of steering you could nix the rear susp and mobile axle replacing it with a solid rear end flattening out the overall height. Then take the front susp and lower it more anchoring the rubber band to a point in the rear?

Ok, here's with bodywork inspired by Ford Bronco or Toyota and Chevy K5. I'm pretty sure steering and suspension works. However there's no way to actually control it, it's just that wheels can turn left and right. Need to figure out how to make it controllable.

I will admit the original Pirate Bay design was very monochromatic, but I'm kinda bummed they sacrificed the original design to add a second pirate ship build. Also, no monkey. Don't really care for the nostalgia bait (which works every time) personally. I guess I'm not the target audience after all. It'll sell out anyways.

That original Pirate Bay design was never going to have made sales worth a shit. That's the thing y'all really need to understand. As decent of a design as it was it would have been prohibitively expensive, and even price aside it was not visually interesting enough to bring in the rich sped crowd.

Pick a subject that interests you, and start making mocs of that subject. Could be that the mold was wearing out and they threw it away after Skybound. IIRC new molds are something like $80-100,000 to produce.

I was thinking about designs like that but the main huge problem I encounter is that there is no way I could figure how to combine individual wheels each with it's own suspension AND having steering. the wheels just spin widely if you have them each with their own steering axis. I did lots of tests and I don't know how real cars do it but with lego it doesn't seem possible

One reason I liked the design I got so far though is just that you dont have to have a gear to steer it, you can just turn by tilting the body of the vehicle, which I felt was a really cool play feature.

So what is everyones opinion on the Lego Collectible Minifigure series 20?

Personally, I find it terrible, especially considering it's supposed to kinda special being the 20th wave.

I find every single figure subpar, besides the amazing viking minifigure. Most figs are just boring retreads of better versions we've gotten earlier.

The green brick suit should have been gold and silver, to tie in with Mr Gold and the special 20th wave.

Peas in a pod-costume and Lama-costume is lazy af. Most accesories are way more interesting than the actual fig (Drone, pinata, turtle)

I could keep ranting, but what do you think?

I don't own any other modulars, i'm planning on making a little city/display for my sets which mostly consist of Lego Movie 2, Hidden Side and The Lego Batman Movie. That sounds like a great setup. As I said, the diner is one of the better standalone modulars and would probably be your best option for such a layout. The American architecture also probably makes it work well with Hidden Side stuff.

Build in that theme, post things about it, support other builders interested in said theme. Keep the flame alive. LEGO might not bring back a lot of themes from back in the day but that doesn't mean we don't have everything we need to keep going.

Personally I like the break dancer, power ranger, drone guy and the pirate is nice if I decide to get pirate bay. That being said you're 100% right about the lego brick guy especially since we just got the red and blue ones. The turtle is a cool piece, and the divers legs could maybe be used for a custom costume Bat-Girl. The keytar really annoys me since the keys are backwards

I was looking at wind surfing sets with these nice sails last night and forgot how fucking NICE those old paradisa plates are. Every fucking retailer in BL is in the EU tho and it means on top of the ten fucking dollar price tag you have to pay int shipping.
I really want to build on those plates.
Also God fuckin DAMN lego needs to do more prints like this. These are so damn beautiful and aesthetic. I wish an Ideas builder would bring back a nice properly minimal paradisa line. I haven't looked in to it, but knowing the lego ideas scene there's a high likelihood of any attempt at recreating the sets being ruined by over detail.

I found my old Mars Mission Masterbuilder's set instruction book while fucking around last night. I forgot how much I absolutely loved the set. Only downside is how few pieces there are in it on top of how much it costs to purchase a new set straight out.
Maybe I'll buy all the pieces for every build in the book instead and have them all at once.

A lot of the builds are large for minifigs, but I think those larger cockpit things fit nicely on larger ship builds, and that six axle truck body is a solid unibody piece if you need a four wide one deep depression while allowing the walls to be structurally stable

Honestly, I am not even mad. What the hell were they thinking this episode with that school and selling food stuff. They had the perfect character combo to create a superhero who goes into the action and his sidekick who is his technological and informational backbone, but they switched their roles to go with that stupid school idea.
In their place I would instead make a mobile base (a spaceship) for the bounty hunter operated by the programmer and having the conflict zone be a village attacked by the mummyfu and the spaceship teleporting in to save it. Not a hard idea to think of.

This was such a great set. I remember the hype I had that Christmas when the new Lego catalogs came out and the first look at Islanders and Spyrius were available. It' was a snowy day, the last day of school before Christmas break, and we went out right after school. The local K-mart didn't have the new sets yet, but Walmart, which had just been built and was a new store no one had heard of did. If only we had known it would kill Caldor, K-mart, and everything else at the time. I got this set and my brother got the Saucer Scout from Spyrius.

Aaron got a stupid idea in his head and Christian didn't call him out on it. There are actual heroes who are school teachers like Black lightning, Guy Gardner, Spider-Man, etc, but I would never put a fucking bakesale in any of those builds.

Their prominent HQ actually had a lot of potential with some tweaks, I could see some definite Flash Museum or Hall of Justice vibes but why build a fucking bake sale? Why did they need Amy and Tyler to tell them that the Programmer and Robot Bounty Hunter could use smaller robots?

That was a licensed set (like the nazis in Indiana Jones sets), but the movie caught a lot of flak for its non-PC depiction of American Indians and Lego caught some of the flak themselves. Probably not something they're eager to repeat.

I really liked 13 personally.

Lots of really characterful figures - king with fur cloak, hot dog man, cowboy with two brown mustache pieces, motherloving ming the merciless

A few decent concepts with new pieces and worthwhile accessories, the carpenter, the paleontologist, the disco girl, the new cobra/snake charmer

A bunch of really army-buildable figures that I went crazy with - living legions of egyptian soldiers for my mummies, easy-to-feel-for goblin army with actual legs and not those terrible short legs, female cyclops to join the male cyclops tribe, green zoidberg alien army builder with classic flair to battle the new space marine army builder with modern flair

Seriously, we all love spooky girl, but series 13 was a better one - it's not all human figures.

I was expecting ten builds with those ten pieces but instead it was ten individual builds with ten different pieces each time
I don't believe I would be able to do ten things with a set of ten pieces from /lg/ in a reasonable amount of time, so instead recommend me some things to make with ten pieces or less

Granted most of those are connectors, would just buying a couple used kits be a good way to start/bulk technic?

Seconding this question. Since a lot of sets these days include mechanical functions, it's made me interesting in seeing what I can build on my own with more Technic gear pieces by experimenting and seeing what works. Which ones are cheap, old sets or current stuff? The current sets look more like Model Team honestly.

At least half of the piece count is likely pins and axles.
At the low end, at most you'll get is steering and a differential to connect wheels to an engine. I'd say Compact Crawler Crane 42097 has a lot of useful gears and pieces. But it's all yellow.

Oh right. At some point they changed gear thickness and general color scheme for the different pin varieties. There's also a lot more special axles in newer sets, ones with stoppers at one end for example. They all still work together, but something to keep in mind. Also the change from mostly technic bricks to beams and panels. Springs are a lot more rare now, but there's a couple of options for mechanical linear actuators recently.
I wouldn't know what to suggest for old sets.

Linear actuators are the coolest for building alongside normal lego imo with worm gears and the like being the only real necessity beyond that.
That said those pins and axles are still incredibly important, but I guess I'll stick to looking for decent ebay/marketplace deals.
