If you ever read about the case, no one really knew who owned what. Each one thought they had the entire thing.
It became a He Said, She Said, where they had to find the original documents and sort it out from there. It took over a decade for them to sort it out and the first two claims (McFarlane vs Gaiman) weren't even legitimate either.
The original creator seemingly was left out of all those lawsuits and investigations, and apparently everyone who handled his character, and he came out saying he still had ownership. Which Marvel then bought.
But that's moot, since we're talking about current in-use first owner mega-licenses and Activision has better lawyers who deal exclusively with licensing than a bankrupt comic company, a poorfag artist, a writer who hired 3 people to create a company to investigate the contracts, and a comic artist/toy company that's probably not even in the top 20 toy companies in the US (roughly Wizards/Magic the Gathering big @~$80m and i have no clue what rank this subsidiary would be).
It's a shame Marvelman isn't popular enough, nor kiddy enough, to warrant a toy.
