Which is one of the big problems with NA and it's chilly reception.

Mattel could always keep it simple - a spaceship lands and a bunch of ugly space mutants come out to conquer Eternia.
If they do want to start a NA storyline, I really think the best way would be to use Dare or He-Ro to. Having He-Man's kid chase Skeletor into space leav behind that bagage of needing everything to relate back to He-Man.

Also Dare has a way better design that actually looked like Motu rather than generic 80s space man.

First of all, I just like his design better. Maybe its the fact he's got a classic power sword - since that was such an iconic part of He-Man's character it sucks that they changed it for NA. It's obvious what trends they were chasing but He-Man should have his sword not a lightsaber.
This also carries over to the details like his furry boots and the armor crossing over both shoulders. Dare just looks more like a Motu character than the NA redesign of He-Man. Maybe its just me, but it looks like he could fit in with both the old style on Eternia, but with enough updates that he fits into outer space as well.
From a story telling perspective, I like that it is Dare, He-Man's son, going into space and not He-Man himself. This clears up one of the biggest problems people have with the NA - where are all the recognizable faces? Other than He-Man and Skeletor its all new.

Consider this: Dare and some of his friends (Icarius and Hydron) have just graduated from the Royal Eternian Battle Academy. Now their first mission is to venture into space to stop the bio-mechanically mutated Skeletor and his new group of evil space mutants.
This seems like a much more organic story and opens it up to having cameos from the older cast so that it all feels more connected rather than the complete break from everything that NA was.
